Hallo Michel and Boris, I know it was on the continent in '69,but in GB thry stayed longer at the top of the screen. Of course there were chrome grilled ones with them on the bottem. But the question is how long they stayed at the top in Britain. And I saw in Gaydon a black grilled one with a grey interior, maybe a mixed one.
Cheers Eric,
According to the link above, the black grille and bottom wipers arrived in GB together in 1973.
Did the European market get the black grille earlier, or did it stay chrome until '73?

boris:
Just been looking at some 88 pics & spotted quite a few ‘L’ reg chrome grill models with the wipers at the bottom of the screen
Hallo Boris, nice pic,
Hallo Anorak,
Only for belgium,
F88 end '65 cab as the 4951 but little changes, and in '66,'67 '68 little updates
1969 wipers at the bottem and 16 speed box
1970 new electric system
end '71 head hatch and air intake behind the cab
for '73 black grille and beige/blue interior and bumper steps
'75 brown interior electric wipers and so on
But I have had some F88’s and you saw every some months little updates, that’s why always is asked for the chassis number,if you order parts who continues till today. Now you can even see on the chassis number in which country it was sold new.
Looks like the Commercial Motor article was wrong then- the wipers moved downstairs before 1973, although the UK market versions may have had them up top for longer than Europe. Something to do with right-hand drive, possibly.

This is a very early F reg of Pennat Shipping which has got the real early front flashers
Hallo MRKEN, nice pic must be a '68 or '69 and still a left ■■■■■■.From the end of '67 they were fitted out with an expansiontank at the inside backwall of the sleeper . Nice with an overheating engine .
Go on then the- ‘tech’ men - why do F86’s & 240 F88’s have such small diameter hubs? Is it the same size as the US uses ? & why only Volvo out of the european manufacturers that did ?
Idly browsing the lorryweb, I found a gallery of this stunning restoration of an L4951. Look at the last picture- the cab interior looks as good as it would in the maker’s brochure. veteranlastbilar.se/Gallery.asp?pageid=759
Absolutley first class restoration, if your going to do a job you might as well do it properly

Hey Michel, superbe pic whenever you go you meet 88 or 89’s,I felt me Always better behind the wheel of an 88 or 89 or a Scania but the LB had the better sleepercab and beds to sleep in.I should chose the one with the biggest grille before the white one on the right side,if you could drive it with the regulatuions of it’s time. But be carefully with the yellow lamps at the bascques.
Not much of interest on the TN site to-night so before I “call it a day” heres a shot of the Two Ugly sisters I bought in early '76 mainly because of the “deal” I was offered from our local Volvo Dealer Taits, initially it was for one unit, but the deal was so good I said OK well I’ll have two, cough and splutter,“We’ll have to ask Volvo if we can do it”,well if you can’t I says, forget it One hour later back came the answer from Volvo, certainly, when do you require delivery Cheers Bewick.

Not much interest??!! How much did the F88s cost, and what was the price of comparable machines?
