SORRY,I was with my thoughts still on a German site. If I say ( max ) you can translate it as the Supreme, paramount.
For the word (ziger) is there no straight translate,
but say it so, F88’s.
Europe 25 countries 25 languages, US 50 states 1 language ,
Belgium 1 country 4 languages Flemish, Dutch,german,french .
One of the very first in Belgium '66, when I got it, it was a wreck with about 1.500.000 km, soon i got an 89.
Here it works for pic’s ,foolish computers .
hallo, A bit dark time history of Volvo out of own experience. Why made Volvo in the '60 and '70 the same faults.Volvo uprated the 495 from 195 to 240HP which was a disaster. Afterwards thy uprated the F88
(240 smmt HP) to (290 smmt HP) which was again a difficulty. And again in the F10 they used the F88 which gave no trouble, but used again the TD100B which was the same as the F88 290, with a bit difference to built it in the F10 serie at us known as the 300HP iso. After their experience of the 290.
Never was the F10 offical mentioned in brochures in din HP here. And don’t know with how much HP it was called in Britain, someone knows it here on the site ■■?, some test sheets named 270,275,276,285 din HP in belguim or in France. In the second model from '79 on they mentioned in (din HP) as F10 261HP,F12 308HP or 360HP later 370 with the high roof (iso 385 or 389). So they could withstand Scania with the 141 (375) 142 (388) but in din HP.Did someone knows if the 110 and the 111 with 296 din Hp was delivered in GB.
We had the 110 as 275 and 296 and the 111 as 296,280 and 305 all in din HP.
Lots of makes mislead customers here with giving all kinds of power,in DIN, SAE or ISO net or ISO brutto.
Nowedays only ISO which it makes easy to compare and then discuss it in tests on hills.
thrue talk tiptop ,the F12 in finland was marketed as385 but in regisration it was360,and even the tourqe is a more interesting thing to look at ex scania 620 3100 volvo 660/700 3000 (becausethe gearbox) so the horse(poney)power output is a marketing trick in all, isn,t it

Cheers Eric,
This is a difficult question to answer. We know the 88-240 had 240bhp DIN and 270bhp SAE(gross). Some time during the ‘70s, a new SAE net standard was made up by the Americans: google.co.uk/#hl=en&tbo=d&sc … 99&bih=686
The first F10 was marketed as a 278bhp motor (DIN?). Then there was a 257bhp variant (TD100G?) This came at the same time as the 385bhp (DIN) F12 (TD120F) and its 305bhp sister (TD120G).
The standards were changed again in the mid ‘80s, to 88/195 ECE, which was designed to be similar to ISO 1585: obtr.co.uk/europaenhancer/En … PDF&format
At this time, the numbers got bigger- a 420bhp (DIN or 80/1269 ECE), 414bhp (BSAu141 net) Scania was suddenly 430bhp. I think the square-headlamp F10 was launched at this time, so the 320 model was probably about 310bhp DIN. The later, intercooled F12s and F16s were measured to this standard. The 395 and 405 F12s were not much different to the original 385. Some people on here have said that the 385 was faster!
Note that the ECE 88 amendments start with this:
ANNEX Annex I to Directive 80/1269/EEC is replaced by the following:
(1) The torque measuring system shall be calibrated to take friction losses into account. The accuracy in the lower half of the measuring range of the dynamometer bench may be ± 2 % of measured torque.
This whole document is full of verbose, ill-defined rambling. Friction losses in what, and why were they not accounted for in previous standards for calibration? What is the “lower half of the measuring range”- is it the speed range or the torque range?
The permitted tolerance mops up quite a few discrepancies in published specifications!
any one out there help with pictures of volvo f88 air pipes as i am rebuilding one and some one stripped it all before me . all the pipes are lost and so are all the pictures taken. i am getting there but its very slow trying to work it all out

hallo Daf 2100, Air pipes of the braking system .
I have lots of manuels of Volvo even the British version, but if you want to make it a bit saver and better.
It would be better to install an airdrayer because of the bad wet air tank system. And for pulling a trailer put on an extra airtank because the trailer takes it’s air out of the frontwheel tank, which is already small.
About air systems Scania was lots better and had bigger airtanks.Mine (F88) has been changed to be better and saver(is one of the first models ( '65-'69) but had already the second baking system. A disaster with them they had two wet tanks one was in the chassis and was always forgotten to be drained. So one of the first problems in winter. The best too is to install a 4 circuit safety valve. And not to forget an weight valve on the rear axle. We over her hadn’t it and in wet wetter solo it was very very dangerous. It became only in '77 an obligation her with the coming of the ECC Europe system.
hi, knows someone how long the wipers were mounted on the top of the cab of chrome grilled F88’s. We got them on the bottom from the end of 1969 begin 1970.But I saw one restored with the wipers down with a chrome grill maybe a 1972 ■■?.And an other question ones I saw a restored F88 with the black grill with a grey painted interior insteed of beige (yellow) knows someone more, tell me.

Hallo Michel and Boris, I know it was on the continent in '69,but in GB thry stayed longer at the top of the screen. Of course there were chrome grilled ones with them on the bottem. But the question is how long they stayed at the top in Britain. And I saw in Gaydon a black grilled one with a grey interior, maybe a mixed one.
