You have a great thread going on here with some good photos as i said before i have a few van de vlist photos, heres one of an ftf again in black and white .They used a motor panel cab on it the same as on the foden ,i ll post a photo of one of watkinsons 8wheel artics on here for you to compare some time.Like i sIaid earlier the dutch always had some good tackle as you have shown in your latest photos so keep them coming. Ill sort some more pictures out for the thread. At colletts we had an 8 wheel mercedes unit which came from Holland it belonged to De Weetrings the boat hauliers at one time .

Cheers for the compliment there mate And that’s a rare one off that FTF, was that in a mag at the time? Looking at it get’s you all nostalgic doesn’t it
Do you mean v.d. Wetering? Never knew that they had a 8 wheeled Merc back then, I just thought it was an older v.d. Vlist Merc… I will see what I can dig up, should be a picture of it in the v.d. Wetering colour scheme somewhere.
And since were at it, some more from a few odd years ago
Hi Patrik. I used to do some flat trailer work for Lensveld from Vlaardingen and often came into a V der V depot to load for Scotland, mainly oil rig support stuff, but the drivers seemed to be being replaced by Romanians, is this still the case?

Hiya,
I reckon that’s the Moerdijk depot you’re referring to then?
How long has that been? All the workforces at that depot are dutch far as I know, v.d.v. used to have a depot in Romania, but that closed a few years ago, and by my knowledge the romanian drivers didn’t came down there.
There is still a polish depot, but I don’t see that lot in our region to often as well, sometimes there in the yard and load stuff that’s going back to their side of the fence, so to speak.
But then again, I’m off at mondays and return on the fridays, and sometimes a bit later, so I don’t always know what’s happening over there
Patrick
Hi Patrick a couple of photos from my days on heavy haulage the Scammell Samson is a Peter Davies photo and the Contractor is mine and I drove both wagons quite a few times

Hiya Johnnie,
You’ve just made me a very happy man mate And I’ve always been a fan off the Crusaders, but I always wonderded about the handlings, it’s not the most comfy ride is it?
Cheers, Patrick
Hi Patrick it is not a Crusader it is a Samson which is a one off ( the only one made and I believe it currently being restored ) it was a 8x4 and rated at 85 tons GVW but it was comfortable at 100 tons gross as I found out that one load which was supposed to be around 60 tons was in fact near on 80 tons but it pulled just the same and there was never any need to use the bottom 5 gears as well ( it had a 15 speed fuller, 10 on the stick and 5 deep reduction on a dashboard switch )
cheers Johnnie

i think it was Assen or maybe Twente, certainly closer to the German Border, it must have been in the late 80’s when the only other Romanians you saw were F Troop

Wow, I’ve never heard off a Samson before , but I just started to read the “loadmovers from Watford” book, I’m currently at page 15
Really remarkble machines, I was fortunate enough to see one near Paris at the Locomotion en fete Fair, what a beast off a machine
But the others were good to look at as well
A real shame that there weren’t any around abroad, closest thing that comes to mind is a FTF probably.

Long before my time then
But you’ve made me curious about it, I will jog somebody’s memory about it.
Anyone remember a 142 T cab sleeper 6x2 that had the cab roof cut down to enable concrete beams to be carried over the cab. It ended up re registered in Britain and was then painted red and black. First registered 1979.

Hiya aspirate,
This is all I could find.
