Ive had the wife across the seats of a van. She was a nice little ■■■■■■ as well. ( the van not the wife honest).

Read the Post - Was it planned or unplanned !!

Totally unplanned, no sleeping bag, out of hours, couldn’t get rescued so took one for the team.

Love it Dave - thinking on your feet! - or maybe not !!

A 400 mile round trip on roads that don’t go a day without been on Sally traffic for some kind of carnage seems silly not to pack a bag with even a blanket or sleeping bag and a wash bag and a change of undies. Hardly carrying round a traveling trunk with you.

Personally

When realised wasnt getting back i would of found an asda/tesco and bought
A wuilt pillow and some wash gear

Failing that paid an hotel

Had the other week rushed off chucked clean bedding on bed
Shipped out parked up went to make bed didnt have my sheet

Next day stopped in german supermarket and bought one

Now I don’t want a peeing competition as I do 4 or 5 nights out a week in [zb] lay-bys and rat infested fields upto my baws in mud. 3 x 15hrs and 2 or 3 13 hour spread overs as that’s what I have chosen todo for work. As it suits me fine.

Speaking as a driver that has tramped for 35 years I don’t think I would have lasted 35 minutes if I had to, (let alone choose to :open_mouth: ) park in [zb] hole lay bys and the other places that you park in, or are you taking the word ‘tramping’ literally

Problem is mate I’d love to park in nice services or truck stops every nite, nice shower and hot meal.
I just haven’t got time to go out my way and park up in these nice places.
So it’s ■■■■ places with a gas stove 5 nights a week for me lol

Just for the record (and I know you don’t give a ■■■■ anyway  ) but I never park at (nice? :open_mouth: ) services either, and truckstops only occasionally.
I assume the places you park are to do with the nature of your job, loggers, agriculture??

well worth re reading

Always nice to see a classic pop up again.

Some top tips for younger viewers who have that rabbit in the headlights moment when faced with their first night away from home and in a truck to boot.

Things have moved on from the days of sleeping across the seats with a few cushions in the middle, brown paper for the windows and start the engine up in the middle of the night to avoid death.

Dont fear day drivers if ever your caught short a fellow trucker will help you out with food drink, alcoholic beverage or even just to share some body warmth.

Never forget my first and was most gratefull to an older more experienced driver showing me the ropes on that cold winters night in Oakhampton. Was even more gratefull when he untied me in the morning.

This is easy if you have a sleeper you carry gear with you because there’s always a chance you might get stuck somewhere its just the nature of the beast im afraid an overnight bag and a sleeping bag isn’t hard to put in the truck takes no time at all

Just read some of my posts on this from a year ago. I can’t believe what an arrogant bast I was then, and how much I have mellowed in 12 months :open_mouth:

Must be part aging part getting in touch with my feminine side, I mean, it’s over a week now ffs since I fell out with somebody on here

Unplanned nights out should be in 5 star hotels I say

Fail to prepare … prepare to fail .
wrong water -
wrong snow -
wrong wind -
wrong traffic -
wrong direction - … (sounds like a band )… hey ho .
.
The excuses coming will be endless . yet interesting -maybe . :grimacing:

just to add ,the company in this post where i went recently for another induction “,said ,you park your car walk through the security walk up to transport office then if they give you a long run you should go back to your car and get your night out gear” he also said he wants you to bring as little amount of gear with you as possible as not to upset the security guards, when they search you ,oh and when they give you the paper work you got 30 mins till you should be driving out the gate ?..i said to the trainer, it takes me 30 mins to find my unit ,dont think he was impressed ,
