Unplanned night out

New trucks don’t seem to have these anymore do they, so what happened to them ?

That the last Volvo FH did…

Our new shape have got the rails but no curtains ,i just thought the gaffer was being tight

If they ain’t in a motor when I get it, I fit them, it’s cooler in the summer. You used to see a lot of motors with just centre curtains drawn only once over.
Discussing curtains, it’s like Housewifenet :unamused: How the hell did we get on to this?

robroy:
Yeh well tough [zb], I’m going for 10

Was it in the same motor together?
Was your passenger female?
Was no curtains a choice thing?
If the answers to 2 & 3 are Yes, did it act as an extra thrill in a voyeuristic kind of way?

  1. Yes. I slept across the seats and “office” desk with gaps padded out with whatever was to hand, track shoes, rolled up towels, etc.

  2. No. My chauffeur was male. A dear friend sadly no longer with us.

  3. Absolutely not. Not my motor. I was just along for the ride. (and a few hours brief 1st time drive of a truck)

Late S plate could be an F series in 77.Early sleepers only had curtains dividing the bunk from the seats.
Two weeks to Rome(and back) is not really an unplanned night out.

NLV 166S so yeah it might have been registered 78.

Didn’t say it was unplanned (except I had so much to do the day we left I ended up forgetting my sleeping bag). The point was the conditions we survived quite comfortably in compared to many of the comments in this thread.

IIRC it was September, popped a heater house coming up a long drag in France on the way back. We completed the journey back to Preston via a weekend in Merthyr (waiting to tip) with no heater.

You weren’t one of the drivers in the famous battle in Merthyr miner’s club were you, when the miners could not see the funny side of truckers messing with their wives on a regular basis, while they were on a shift down the pit

Those night outs were certainly NOT unplanned

Reminds me of this, although in Cardiff.
Great song though and an even better video.

Where the hell did you find that footage :open_mouth: That was ME in the 80s, I’d just parked the F89 left ■■■■■■ round the back of the miner’s club, shower and change, splash of Brut (well it was the 80s) and went in to throw a few shapes, I ended up marrying the blonde bird in the hot pants, Myfanwy, she liked the smell of diesel better as the coal dust got everywhere she said. She’s dog rough now though, I mean it was 30 years ago, …Where the hell am I going with this  …, anyway good vid

Ha Ha… Myfanwy’s only dog rough cos you’ve “hounded” her ■■■■■ far too much.

It wasn’t all my fault, I did tell you about the coal dust getting everywhere, and it did take it’s toll  …and them old Volvo bunks weren’t that wide, so you had to be a contorsionist, so her joints were a bit stretched before I married her…

Do you reckon we should knock this on the head now?

Good idea. Though I’m still watching Myfanwy gyrating the night away.

If I’m in a day cab, you’re coming to get me but if I have a sleeper than I’ll be taking my sleeping bag.

I got less than halfway through this thread and came up with two possible solutions.

1, Gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.

2, Make a comment.

I chose the latter.

Now I know times have changed, it is no longer acceptable to drive anything that has less than 450hp, a night heater, air conditioning, a high roof cab enabling you to jump up and down on the engine tunnel without putting your bouffant in peril, but we’re talking about one night here.

Forget all the ■■■■■■■■ about being prepared, if you don’t do nights out, then there’s no need to carry anything with you for a night out, even if your run is pushing the boundaries of what possible.

However ■■■■ happens, you have no choice but to camp out, so you do, it won’t be the most comfortable night, but you can pull the curtains, make a pillow and get a reasonable sleep, much the same as many drivers do during a 45min break, only for a while longer which your circadian rythym should take care of.

It ain’t the end of the world, it ain’t a reason to do anything about, other than chalk it down as one of those things.

There have been times when plumbers in vans, for example, have spent a night in their vehicle, breakdowns, road closures etc. I’m sure they weren’t happy about it, but they dealt with it.

For a driver who does the job day in, day out and sees what problems you can face to whine and cry about it is absolutely ridiculous.

hi ,
i’d like to throw in a question regarding an unplanned night out.

i currently drive an artic with a day cab and have come close to needing a night out. where do i stand with being collected or put up in a hotel as the vehicle has no bunk to take a rest break on and if i end up in a layby in the middle of nowhere after some event like this latest m25 incident, can i legally take a daily rest in a day cabbed vehicle.

Engage brain where do you think you cant sleep in the truck so its going to be a hotel isn’t it which really the company should pay for.

Night out money is paid for you to get accommodation. it is only a perk because of sleeper cabs. So companies are paying for you to get in lodgings anyway and have no need to shell out extra for hotels. Sorry tin hat time here I’m old school if you get caught out have the night out and get on with it. Worse things happen at sea!

I was referring to not having a sleeper cab and yes I’ve had many weeks away across the seats of van too

Ive had the wife across the seats of a van. She was a nice little ■■■■■■ as well. ( the van not the wife honest).

What you and your wife get up to is nothing to do with us

Some drivers only get £18 night out money where would you suggest they stay with that, night out money to me is for giving your home life up and money towards food.
