Can’t ever recall giving a female driver that kind of patter. I had a riveting chat at Rugby truckstop recently with a female trucker. She was ever so nice and not at all women’s lib.

Its not about womens lib and all that, I enjoy doing a job, I get told as a female I should be at home looking after my kids !!!, “what are you doing working in a mans world !!!” etc etc etc the list is endless

Perhaps it jealousy seeing a female drive reverse onto an awkward bay in one go, instead of doing 5 - 6 - 7 etc shunts !!!

I think anyone can do any job, as long as they CAN do it.

I’ve seen a fat bloke who can’t get out of his cab and asks passers by to swipe his card at the docks. I know a tiny guy who can rope, sheet, throw straps over 20 high cheps etc, then a 6’ odd guy who can’t and even had to have the tiny guy diverted to help him strap his pallets :unamused:

I will help anyone, male or female, but I won’t do the job for anyone, if they can’t do it, I’ll show them or help them, if they still can’t do it, it’s time to move on to another career IMHO.

You sound like you’re either really good looking or think you are, but a lot of places I go have a lot of good looking girls, so I’m not sure why you get that attitude off the men you meet.

AS I SAID EARLIER, its not all male drivers are like that, but it seems that abot 90 percent !!!

I’d like to get to know you a lot better love, you want to come and have a look at my big Topline?

Don’t worry it was a joke, I am most certainly not in the 90%, what with being a gayer  So I’m not letting you anywhere near my big Topline.

del949:

What I dont like are the comments about, being a female driver. and the amount of times I hear, “so you like handling big things do you love” you can imagine what comment comes next.!!!

works both ways though.
When night trunking we had 3 women driver working with us. the second was really nice and would flirt a bit in a way that let you know it was all banter

Like most other things it all started going wrong after the 1970’s del. It’s the ones who are young and flirt, and who are hopefully up for more than just banter, and who still believe that a woman’s place is in the home (as soon as they’ve been noticed doing the type of jobs suited to them  ) who are most in demand as good wife material.Whereas the older career girls are everywhere but no one wants them or it often doesn’t seem to last long if anyone does. :smiling_imp:

There’s loads of hypocricy out there, concerning the whole thing, whereby the career women are now telling the few younger Essex type ones left, who are more interested in getting married and having their kids while they’re young, that they should be out there spending all their young years in college and then doing a full time job and then waiting until their 30’s to get married and have their kids when they suddenly find that they’re too old for it all.

It’s no surprise that the armed forces are now being seen as an ‘equal opportunities employer’ even up to women being employed on front line duties. But as usual when the squaddies themselves go out looking for a wife it’s not usually those ones who they’re working with that they go for. It’s more likely to be the young good looking bird in the short skirt, who’s happy with her part time job on the supermarket check out and wants to stay at home and let her husband be the one who earns most of the household budget. Then on top of that is the age thing these days where the women think it’s an insult for a middle aged bloke to still be looking. It’s just a shame that I wasn’t the age I am now driving buses during those less pc days of the 1970’s.

Oh my god. I’m going to compile a book and call it Carryfast Gold. What do you think Carry? I reckon we’d make a fortune in the comedy genre.

If you aspired to be Reg Varney you didn’t have much ambition. I would have had you down as a Clint Eastwood or Burt Reynolds wannabe.

That just leaves the question of wether Lotteea is single and more like the clippy at the end of the film than one of those female inspectors and if that Reg Varney example would be more her type than Clint Eastwood. :smiling_imp:

Was married for 15years …til he went off with the neighbour a few years ago

Started doing middle east after being married for 8 years, left her at home with two kids.
It was hard on both of us,but I loved the job,and she let me have my own way.
Missed my kids growing up which can never be replaced, finished m/e after 12 years and been at home ever since.
Now doing two night trunks a week in my retirement, last week was our 45th anniversary.
Don’t know many mates that were on the m/e that stayed married.
As Momma Cass sang,“It’s gettin better,growing stronger…”
