Cheers, those are the very chaps,my memory is shot, too many years of cheap alcohol.
Hi all, anyone remember a guy who did Swiss with a wagon and drag for Rh Stevens out of Macclesfield. It was a 2500 with a cab top sleeper, the driver didn’t come from Macc but from Wolverhampton I think,West Midlands anyway. He did this for most of the eighties.I can see his face but the name won’t come.real nice guy.I read this whole thread so I have faith in all you guys out there.
Anyone remember Pete Cox,Andy Smith,Jimmy Hill,Bob Beresfod,Steve Murray and Alex (Beast) Simrok. They all did Europe in the eighties. Also Mickey (Mouse) Chambers from Central Freight and Chris Bird.Is the Chambers playing for Nottm.Forest his son?Mickey played football till he was about 40,loved the game.Be nice to know what happpened to these people.I lost touch when I moved to Cheshire.Final resting place probably.

0To all you E.M Rogers drivers.I loaded machinery in Como with her and she had to strip a dog of a tilt all the way to the front.I stood and watched her do it herself,no pulling the female card.We helped each other put them back together in no time.A good driver regardless of gender.Wonder where she is now.
Hi Relluf: Welcome to Trucknet and especially to this thread; Still the best one on here Great storys mate. Love the RH inclusion. I don’t know why I never posted RH pics No reason really, I got quite a few Have to dig them out.
This pic of the EM Rogers F7…yes it is an F7 and YES it did do Italy regulary! That is the one and only Hilary at the wheel. Simply known to everyone as “H” she was as skinny as a rake. I’ve seen more fat on a chip. But by god was she strong. She regularly had a right go at us (EMR drivers) if we “dared” to take over when she was “working” on her trailer. Fair play to the girl. She left EMR under some cloud. One min she was there, the next she’d gone. Don’t know what happened to her either…Great girl!
well said Dreva, Ash has been noticeable by his absence. One minute I am getting overload on 80’s pics and having the time of my life, the next I am in counselling for withdrawal symptoms!
Thanks for the welcome Ash,I have an album of photos somewhere and I’ll post it when found.Anyone remember that Chatham to Helsinki ferry.Mostly unaccompanied but I went on it once, hideous. Also the Immingham to the Hook, great food.I’ve also posted in the Stoke-on-Trent thread with photos there.
Hi Mat,I do remember a lot of MAT drivers. Some were from Hull but I think there was a depot in the West Mids as well.I seem to remember their drivers comparing perks and stuff, because I don.t think all the depots were paid the same.I used to see one regularly at the Monkey House,He was friendly with the Beresford lads.Faces I can see clearly in my head, but the names escape me.
hiya,
Never did International work but have worked for companies that did namely Bowkers, just wondering did any of you guys ever come across a great pal of mine from my days at Bowkers about 40 years ago, his name Jack Leach, i believe he went on to work for Woodside Bros but i know he did Continental work for a lot of years certainly from the 60s should imagine he’ll be retired now will be in his early 70s just a bit younger than me, thanks in advance for any information.
thanks harry long retired.

As soon as I saw that picture, I thought, that’s Hillary and then Ash confirmed it, she had an F10/12 when I knew her, great girl.
I remember Chris Bird off Central, ran with him a few times but i have not seen him for years. I also met other Central drivers one was Karl ( drove a 143 ) the other being Jamie. You all know that story. and

Hiya Bloxotrix,I remember Karl, his 143 was a flat top and right hand drive. He drove the leftie toplines as well.I asked him how he coped back and forth and he told me he drove an American car so it was easy for him.I had a left ■■■■■■ in the 80s,the walk across the cab seemed like the longest walk ever.Took some getting used to.They all used to load groupage out of Prato Friday night but they were all in their house Saturday evening,Serious heroes
Great pictures Relluf.

Dennison in Madrid! Not too many of them to be sen.
Great pics Whip.I remember all these firms from Rungis and all over.Campogalliano at Modena was a favourite watering hole.Did the Dennison’s have a wooden cab.? I think they were based on the Finnish Sisu’s.Saw a lot of them when I lived in Wexford, not many outside of Ireland though.I had a mate on Cassin’s,we stalked each other all over Europe.Name escapes me again,he was tall slim with a full head of greying hair,he wasn’t old just prematurely grey.I’m hoping someone has pics of Transcontinental’s F89s.They really did go.Loving this thread keep it up lads.
Thanks for the input Relluf - very welcome. Don’t know if you ran from Lenton Lane, but it always used to puzzle me that the Ram Jam Inn was full of Dover-bound RH motors on a Sunday afternoon and it can’t have been an hour from their yard Unless they just used to regroup there - any ideas?
Hi all,how many of you remember the pot of soup always on the go by the phone at the bakehouse. The toilets were out back next to the open shed where all the tarts were uncovered (hence the name)cooling.the flies would have a dabble in the s**t then the tarts and end up flying over the soup. The hot steam would kill them and they’d drop in.Never put me off the soup.Mmmm delicious. There was another restaurant down from the Bakehouse on the right hand side just before Pont D’Ain that the French used.I couldn’t find a space at the Bakehouse so I went in there.Great food but a lonely meal.
Hi again.Anyone remember when a wagon turned over at the lights in Nantua La Cluses.Nothing could get by,we were there for hours. The traffic backed up all the way down the Cerdon. The Gendarmes were parking them up at the Bakehouse and on the short stretch of motorway that ended by the bakehouse. The guys who weren’t even going up Cerdon got caught up in it.If you were going Cenis or Frejus this was the way you went.No motorway back then. There was a little bar on the corner at the lights,he must have thought he won the lottery.I was about half a mile back with a couple of other Beresford drivers.I can’t remember who they were but we walked up to the bar.It was chocka. The traffic out of Italy was backed up as well cos they had to turn left at those lights.Hell and Heaven all in one place.

A lot of the lads there were felixstowe and Harwich bound, struggled to do it in 4.5 hours if anything held them up,so they stopped there.
