When going to update mine and reading their instructions it would seem that some satnavs run their maps off the SD card. Don’t ask me why. They probably forgot to put a memory chip in it when they were manufacturing it

These sat navs weren’t “born” as sat navs ,they are basically cheap tablets that have the sat Nav aspect added to them by the seller hence why in most cases the sat Nav element is on a SD card because the unit itself doesn’t have enough internal memory.

Ours actually have the maps built in to them, and you can put your own memory card in for films and music ect. Trog any news on a login yet? I have no news from seller regarding the update situation.

Apparently their putting an update up in a couple of weeks and he requested I contact him again in two weeks and he’d have the log in info ready.
He’ll probably say the same to you when he finds your message

Ash i have to thank you for this original post, i brought that satnav and have been using it the last 3 weeks, around central london( near oxford street) all outer london and i can safely say it hasnt put me wrong at all apart from one last night it seemed to want to take me the long way round. it beeps when there are speed camera and gives you advance notification on when you need to get into what lane etc and i cant actually fault it. and only once has it sent me up a street which was pushing the width but luckily it wasnt so bad as it was at 1am.

Well basically, I was in a housing estate that was a li it of 7.5 access only so I am legal still, the sat nav took me in here no problem. Getting out it sent me on a 20 min route out when I could have just used a main entrance but it didn’t like it due to being 7.5t so lots of time wasted that I didn’t have. Lesson learnt weight of truck is now set at 7.4t and I just use my eyes like a normal human beingThis is where HGV sat navs fall down imo, you’ve had to disable 50% of the uses you bought it for,the other 50% being bridge heights.
I deliver to a lot of shops inside 7.5t weight limits and this is why I have always stuck with a normal car tomtom and my own observations, don’t get me wrong these HGV sat navs are good but if your running from RDC to RDC.
That might be the case with the cheapie Chinese units, but on my TomTom at least if your destination (or departure point) are in a weight (or width etc) restricted area it tells you as much and gives you the option of ignoring just those specific limits - the rest of the route is planned according to the vehicle weight/dimensions you have set.
That’s not to say it’s perfect (far from it) - but you don’t need to routinely disable the weight restriction (or change it to a lower limit) just to get the thing to give you a workable route. As I said - other truck satnavs may work differently.
I’m not 100% sure if it does it consistently but my one does warn about restricted roads etc when it first plans the route for you. If its a route with lots of way points and has several restrictions you can sycle through them all too.
I have found 1 mistake in bridge hights so far. It said a 16’6 bridge was a 9’? And went a bit mental at me as I ignored it as I was local to the arier and knew the road. In its defence there is a 9’? Bridge just round the corner. At least it got it wrong in the way you’d rather it got such things wrong.
Ow, I’ve also since my review discovered that you can reorder your route without having to start from scratch.
I’m still loving it and not regretting being a bit of a cheepscate
Matty I am glad you are enjoying the sat nav, I am loving it also like you said cant fault it really. tells you way In advanced what lane to go in its amazing. As for the restrictions when you d o plan your route it does tell you if you its in a restriction but confuses itself a little that’s why I just changed the weight. Also another feature i learnt the other day, i was sat in traffic for around 15 mins it pops up would you like to take a detour its 0.6mile longer and takes 3 minutes longer, hell yes this is a helpful bit of kit!

Although it did take me down a restricted road which ended up into a bus lane and screwed me lol got a fine Haha! Yeah it does at night but the restrictions are not in use for delivery to certain areas. Yup it did the same to me when I was on the m25 so its pretty handy!
Haha really, oops did you not see signs for the bus lane or was you just following the sat nav . I don’t think it is good with bus lanes as actually it tried to do that to me as well but I turnt around and worked my way around it! To AVOID a FINE lmao.
Nope was to busy looking at the sat nav and not paying attention. Yeah I saw it but it was to late and was gonna be a nightmare to try turn around but there was a camera ah well never mind. And yeah it is crap with bus lanes and I stay out of them now. Every now and then it will take me down a road that would normally be ok but cars parked on either side makes it a tight squeeze. I hate London lol!!!
I bought the Nav that kicked off this thread. Seems not to be bad for the cash.
Which of the three maps do u seem to be using the most?
Cheers
Mark
Glad you are enjoying it mark I am using the first one on the left. Matty you idiot, you will live and learn lol and London is a ■■■■■■!

Yep same as me I am using the first one and works perfectly!
Thanks fellas … Just checking I was not missing out on anything with the other map… Also as anyone managed an update yet or are they the latest maps
I believe they are the latest, no update as of yet with mine.
I got in touch with the chap who sells them for a log in to update it and he said come back in 2 weeks as there will be an update then.
So if he’s right there should be an update for them some time this coming week. I’m hoping it has the new speed limits on it as my sat nav ATM spends a lot of time looking angrily at me and I’ve had to shut it up on the speeding alirt as it was driving me nuts
Cheers ash and trog …Trog if you could keep us updated about the update that would be great…
Cheers for now
