Truckers sat nav suggestions

Depends on the nature of your work, I suppose - Whenever I’m covering for my colleagues delivering to private houses I find it helpful to have the latest maps as there are loads of new residential estates popping up all the time. Less useful when I’m doing my regular hospital/warehouse stuff though as they don’t change as much. Also can cause problems if (like me) you use the TomTom traffic service as it can end up overlaying traffic information onto the wrong roads if you don’t have up-to-date maps on your device.

I see where your coming from, good advice as I will be delivering to lots of houses :frowning:

I’m sure you will be fine 99% of the time mate.
But I do see and agree that paying top money SHOULD mean you get a better service, software, support and map accuracy.
Hence now that I’ve seen how valuable a GOD SatNav is, I want to get the TomTom.
Yes it’s expensive, but over a working year it’s about a £1 a day, and if it saves me from just a couple of problems that a cheaper one wouldn’t, I don’t see that as a bad investment, as you do get what you pay for…

I don’t see it getting you better map accuracy - the mapping data comes from the same few sources regardless of which device you buy.

Oh, I didn’t know that, or a lot of other things about SatNav’s until now.
Thanks for all the advice/info Roymondo!

Actually it’s 3 here maps was navteq and originally bought by Nokia. Teleatlas bought out by tomtom. And also osd which is open source maps the data is supplied by users apps such as Waze and mapfactor use this to name two. Eastern eruopean maps use different maps providers

Evil the 3 softwares that are used on my sat nav are the main ones that all providers used so you will not gain anything from paying more money

I just want to get mine updated as I don’t know when it was made and stuffed in a box in some warehouse. Might have 5 year old maps on it for all I know :stuck_out_tongue:

Very true Trog, have you updated yet, I have not done mine either. If you still cant find the button to do it I will look properly for you tomorrow buddy.

Haven’t had time mate between work and my daughters. Might get a chance today as the company cancelled on me

That ■■■■■! Let me know if you update it because I will do mine then lol

ok, got the pro-driv sat nav today. It works with width and hight restrictions, what a relief

however it has similar iGo (as well as Sygic) software, and the maps are fresher than on the NazTec one. i suspect ii copy the maps from pro-drive to NazTec they would work there as well. Will try and do it it later though.

Question - on Sygic on the map the 7.5ton limits are shown as 8.3 ton. Ash - is it the same on yours? How do i fix it?

No clue how to fix this, will you ever by driving anything that’s 7.5T though? I know that’s not the point is it, I have not noticed if I am honest, what software are you using? I have only used the first one that’s it .

I see youf point, fair enough

I think it’s simply a question of the units used - 7.5 tonnes (metric) = 8.27 short tons.

Right, was using my Noza-crap in the truck around Southampton Monday and Tuesday, & I’ve lived there almost all my life, so I know the place well. I know the best routes around, and where there are likely to be truck restrictions. And my conclusion is that I don’t really know how the Noza-crap can call itself a truckers Sat-Nav! It was perfectly happy to send me on routes that I didn’t agree with, and would happily route me through 7.5 ton limits that have been in place for donkies, as if there were no alternative routes. So I spent most of those 2 days ignoring the silly ■■■■■, although when i did argue with her, she always managed to get the last word in!

But today, I had my new TomTom 6000 Truckers SatNav, and was doing the same area. The TomTom is far sexier and far more intelligent, as she knew of the existence of these restrictions, and routed my around them all without disagreement from me. So I hope you 2 (Priest & Ash) are happy with yours, and don’t have an Noza-crap problems!

Not used anything other than the “get me to this address” (Search) function, so don’t ask me any technical questions yet! :open_mouth:

probably… i just can’t find where this can be changed

Ohh dear Evil, sounds like you had an interesting day with your ■■■■ nav, a car one probably sends you a better route! She always gets the last word in, you will never win here :stuck_out_tongue:. I see you have invested in a branded sat nav now, I hope that works out well for you and you are clearly being paid too much! How much did you pay in the end you mug

Keep us informed on how you get on with ya new TomTom…still think its a far superior product than one of them Crap Navs… and the added bonus of live traffic…End of the day you pay for what you get and if you got the dosh to spend then flaunt it…Its what you want …who cares what others think…

I will do pal, but at the moment I’m too tired to look at it!
I’ll maybe explore the features a bit more over the weekend.

It was £280 Ash, and you know exactly how much I took home last week!
But I’d rather be like you today and be paid to stay at home. Do they think you’re really that bad?
