Fail. Try again. The entire content of T&D (ads excepted) is rehashed stories that were posted here months ago. It’s been like that for at least the past 7 years I’ve been a member here. I fear that you are the one who is talking bobbins this time . Of course you won’t admit because your little income stream would cease to exist if you did or are you one who provides articles for free in return for a free mag each month .
ETA: When I had several £m of printer cartridges nicked from my trailer at Whitwood many years ago I posted the tale on here but don’t recall ever giving T&D any permission to copy and paste it into their mag. In the next months edition, there it is on page 2 in all its glory with a few words changed round. So it’s not unreasonable to say that T&D are profiting from member contributions because it happens to be true. Them’s the facts.
No freebies from me, you don’t get the kind of quality articles that I write for nothing mate
Spill!
I disagree with you about them ripping off content though, not because of misguided loyalty, but because I worked alongside the T&D staff when I was at TRUCK, sure some of the stuff in the mag will cover topics discussed on here, but this is a trucking site, we discuss things that happen in the industry, in fact I doubt that there’s a single trucking related topic that hasn’t been discussed on one of the TNUK forums at some time, we also have the ability to do it as it happens, T&D is a monthly magazine, so sometimes they will be lagging behind a bit.
With regard to your printer cartridge story, I can guarantee that the facts were checked out before they put it in the magazine and credit where credit is due, you are quite articulate, if you presented the full facts, there wasn’t much else they could do than rewrite your story, it was a matter of public record, a theft occured from a lorry, so it’s pertinent to a magazine about lorries.
Re your closing paragraph I don’t have any issue with the magazine coverage of that story whatsoever. However as the incident had not been reported anywhere else it just further cemented my earlier comments in this thread that they nick content from here and then indirectly charge for it, and that’s not right imho. If an editor can’t get off his arse and find original content for his mag then he needs to pack his bags and let someone else do it that can.
If I had been the editor of the last mag I would’ve been ashamed at my efforts tbh with you :
bloke buys Scania rigid and covers it in 18 kelsa bars, 380 spot lights and 230 LEDs, gets some company to stick a horse box body on the back and put some white button leather in the cab, and takes 20 pics of the exterior. And that was it! What about some story, like the costs involved, complications to get stuff to fit/work, pics of the interior etc, to name a few? The light bars and LEDs may give some small kid a hard-on for a while (maybe even some blokes ) but the article was of no interest whatsoever to the average reader, and I can’t see it being of any interest to a horsey type person either as I didn’t tell them [zb] all of any use.
bloke works for leccy company sticking poles in the ground, and here’s half a dozen pics. And that was it! WTF? Where’s the story?
bloke writes column saying sleeper cab should be scrapped and everyone go back to digs. WTF? Is this guy for real?
rest of mag filled with Maritime ads.
There’s enough people on this forum online doing interesting jobs that could easily fill a mag with content each month. Many of them write for free on here and I’m sure would happily write for the mag if there was palm greaser involved. I was going to list them but there’s that many…
I never saw that issue so can’t comment, but T&D is the biggest seller, Trucking does cover the techier side of things, not to the degree of TRUCK or CM/Motor Transport, but it does delve a little deeper into things at times, it still sells less than T&D though, so why change a winning formula.
BTW Harry, there’s a LDD in this months issue, not in the league of Mr Llewellyn, but it ain’t bad and on this I am totally biased
Come on, own up… Someone has hacked Robs account and is posting under his guise…
Seriously, he is, to an extent, right on the money. It used to be that there would be features on how customising was done, like the Big Blue things on here. Now it is more a case of put the pics in, say what it has and that’s that.
A few years back, I offered Steev at Trucking to come out here and ride the roads, and the ice roads. It was, in reality, his suggestion. I even OK’d it with the boss. Never heard another word from him.
And the sods still owe me for a my mistake, now I think of it!!!
But the trouble is the job simply isn’t as interesting as it used to be. I have been in this gig for 20 years and have seen how it has become less interesting and, if I dare suggest it, less challenging in some ways. No more is it a case that Joe Blow spent 5 hours on the side of the road re-shelling his ■■■■■■■ with pliers and a bean can. No, now it is Joe Blow sitting on the shoulder with a HATO sat behind waiting for a DAF fitter with a laptop.
There must be ways to make the magazines more interesting. Maybe NMMs column will be a starter. Since the misery guts hasn’t furnished me with a copy, I cannot say… Hint hint!!
Rob (Dog) I’m home all this week, I’ll pop a copy round if you’re home
And Trucking owe me for a my mistake too, I got a right slagging off for it in the following issue too it was a thing where I swapped trailers with one of the other lads at the bottom of France, he had a Palermo, I had a Milan or a Perugia, he needed to get back for a kids birthday, so anyway I ended up weekend in Sicily, then had to wait until midweek as someone had refused an offer they shouldn’t have and got their packhouse burned down Then I got a boat back to Genoa from Termini Imerese, spent a day there undergoing everything but a full cavity search by the Dogana, then had two easy hits home, had my 11 off in Dover & got pulled at the A2/M2 ministry place ‘because all you fridge boys run bent’ I PMSL, all I’d done in the previous week was sit on my fat arse drinking Peroni some holier than thou knob said it was all lies and would never happen, he’d been driving blah blah years, I couldn’t do this, couldn’t do that, funny thing was, I never saw him anywhere along the way during my trip when you’ve worked for some of the characters I have, believe me you don’t have to make stuff up

…if there’s anything anyone would particularly like to see (except me shutting up ) let me know…
Mark, I would love to see a photo diary of No Neck riding along with you on one of your juants across to the West Coast
Nothing to drastic, just you and him away for a couple of weeks, sharing the living space and life together out on the highways of North America while he show you the ropes!!!

That’s an amazing coincidence Rick, I’ve got such a story planned, oh wait a minute, you said No Neck, I had No Knickers in mind
One of the reasons I stoped buying T&D and Trucking International as it was known, was the ■■■■ poor photos, when I’m reading a story I want to see at least a couple of good shots with the whole truck in them, not some stupid angle showing a quad axel setup or a pic showing the front corner of the bumper looking up towards the screen, I do want to hear about trucking in other parts of the world and LLD, it’s why it was so good in the first place.
On another note, when someone sends in a story, even if it’s not going to be used could you please write back and at least say no thanks, Mr Editor.

Bob…How bout a story with photos coming across Highway 11, North Bay to Nipigon and then on to Kenora, in the winter of course.
Theres a thought.... After all, you do get a hell of a variety of weather there, dont you? Of course, if you can dare to let go of the steering wheel from the white knuckle ride…
It would certainly be interesting. A couple of pics of our far eastern brethren white lining and overtaking in their wonderful fashion, and a couple of pics of the resulting carnage.
Maybe the 17 would be a better shout though. Some of the super bs stuck on a couple of the hills…
Hey Mark. Home tomorrow (Saturday). Got some serious shooting to do as I have a shoulder appointment on Monday and want it to be hurting when I get there…

I was allowed to buy tools yesterday, so today is a family day, couldn’t trust myself to be around the missus with a loaded gun
BTW Canadian Tire has a big sale on, $400 socket sets for $88.88, all sorts of other stuff too, going back in a bit in case I missed something yesterday
