TRUCK AND DRIVERS `magazine

I had a flick through the regular mags I buy (not from up there) takes about 25 minutes while the wifes looking at new jeans and stuff. It saves me from buying them. T and D and Trucking had nothing to interest me and the heritage mags only a few bits and pieces, all in all I’ve saved around £15 by doing that.
I used to buy steam railway mags but got fed up with the readers memories of watching a certain carriage go by behind whatever with a different tender in 1960. I think the heritage sector is going that way too.

I buy T&D every month but get Trucking free from BGP in Bicester where its printed as its a daily delivery/collection, also as much ■■■■ as i want!

I think you will find Truck and Driver is something to do with the same peeps as Trucknetuk ? Sure I’ve seen that Will Shiers posting on here before ? and theres that monthly question thingy that gets posted in the magazine the following month  and NewMercMan has a page in T&D every month telling about his adventures in the states  I guess if thats the case then by buying the magazine we are helping to keep the website open

I do indeed, hopefully you enjoy my column, as an aside, if there’s anything anyone would particularly like to see (except me shutting up  ) let me know, the whole idea behind a magazine is giving the readers something they actually want to read

How weird is this, I was in a hopwood yesterday and waiting for mrs to change the nipper so I had a look through T&D while waiting in smiffs and saw the special on the driver going from edmonton to cali and thought of you straight away from your diaries on here. Dont you think we read enough of your rollocks? We dont want to be reading the same tripe in there to I will boycott said mag I have never bought untill further notice

Although newmercmans post explains the advertising in the magazines I still preffered the format of Headlight. true legal stories with real names and fines, proper cafe reports and adverts with opening times, address and menus. truck repairers rather than corporate advertisements and a proper back load section

And not a mention of some 50 year old with a pout trying to flog TFR

Andrew, thank you, I had a sneaking suspicion that it would appeal to you

You have FHM, Nuts & Zoo to flick through and you stand there reading my tripe

The thing with any magazine is that to please everybody you would need a million pages every month, a successful magazine will have a little bit for everyone, just like the threads on here, take my stuff for example, both here and in T&D, it doesn’t appeal to everybody, some people couldn’t give a toss what things are like over here, but there are some that do, trying to get in a variety that appeals to everyone is the key and as T&D is the best selling trucking magazine, they must be doing something right, like Mr Nut and many others, I too prefered the old format of TRUCK and Headlight, especially the techy side of things, but unfortunately the readers/buyers never agreed as both titles are no more due to poor sales

Any driver who goes to Oxford City Council’s depot on Marsh Road Cowley will get free ■■■■…they’ve got a shed there that handles waste paper from the Citys’ recycling centres. Problem is, you need a ruler to be able to prize open the pages! :open_mouth:

Typical! :imp: I get my first article published in T&D this month, and you lot say your not going to buy it!

Well I’ve been reading truck and driver all my life i buy it as soon as it’s in the shops also read trucking and used to read truck as well before they stoped making the mag :frowning: but truck and driver and trucking never miss a mag

When the latest T&D arrived though the post to my suprise it also had another magazine with it Truckers Wives - Trampers are away the wives will play.

Still waiting for my binder though that was meant to come with the new subcription  :frowning:

Not bought T&D for years, same old thing regurgitated in every issue. There’s only so much you can say about the industry and its been repeated in print time and time again. Probably the reason this site (internet in general) is infinitely more interesting, is the fact that information is directly from the horses mouth, ok some of it is more bovine than horse but it’s interesting

Tiger.

I worked at BGP for 10 years, there’s only so many readers wifes mags you can look at before you lose the will to live, each section is usually 25000 copiesx4 sections makes a long night :unamused:

T&D should be scrapped and the money they save on the printing and production costs should be equally distributed to all the regular posters on here, seeing as that’s where all their content comes from. :unamused:

I see you’re back talking bollox again Rob :unamused: pity as you had a bit of a sensible thing going on for a while, I even found myself agreeing with you more often than not :stuck_out_tongue:

In front of me is the latest T&D, apart from the section that quotes trucknetuk specifically, which takes up a 3rd of a page and a feature on gas attacks where the question was asked on here, there is nothing in the magazine that has been lifted from this site, if you don’t like the magazine, say so, you don’t even have to have a reason, but if you are going to critisise it, please have a valid point :open_mouth:

Fail. Try again. The entire content of T&D (ads excepted) is rehashed stories that were posted here months ago. It’s been like that for at least the past 7 years I’ve been a member here. I fear that you are the one who is talking bobbins this time   . Of course you won’t admit because your little income stream would cease to exist if you did   or are you one who provides articles for free in return for a free mag each month :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: :stuck_out_tongue: .

ETA: When I had several £m of printer cartridges nicked from my trailer at Whitwood many years ago I posted the tale on here but don’t recall ever giving T&D any permission to copy and paste it into their mag. In the next months edition, there it is on page 2 in all its glory with a few words changed round. :open_mouth: So it’s not unreasonable to say that T&D are profiting from member contributions because it happens to be true. Them’s the facts. :bulb:

That picture of that Jenny bird in the ad on the back cover year in, year out is a rehashed story

To my mind Truck & Driver went sharply downhill on the day that they dropped Long Distance Diary.

As a former hack, all be it on a local rag I back up the statement that advertising is the main source of income (sticking my neck on the block and waiting for the replies!) and keeps down the price of the magazine as much as possible. I used to hate going out and doing advertorials and taking pictures of cars for sale rather than car crashes but thats what paid my meagre wages (I never progressed to fake sheik level).

As a part time driver (weekends with our E10 and 5 minutes notice at work when someone pulls a sickie) I find T&D and Trucking good to keep up with legislation as the firm I work for are shocking at it!

The vintage magazines were good but as someone pointed out they are getting full of hazy memories rather than pictures of vehicles. Despite our old B series appearing on CVC’s front cover a couple of years back I have always much preferred Heritage Commercials, especially now they have the Classic Truck section which is the motors I remember going out with my Dad in (hazy memories I guess).

At the end of the day both the mags and this site are there for a common cause… to make our job easier and improve our profile with Joe/Josephine Soap.

I like the truckers tests but they’re a bit brief at times, although I know it can be hard to persuade some drivers to take part, as Dave Young told me when I did one last year.

No freebies from me, you don’t get the kind of quality articles that I write for nothing mate

I disagree with you about them ripping off content though, not because of misguided loyalty, but because I worked alongside the T&D staff when I was at TRUCK, sure some of the stuff in the mag will cover topics discussed on here, but this is a trucking site, we discuss things that happen in the industry, in fact I doubt that there’s a single trucking related topic that hasn’t been discussed on one of the TNUK forums at some time, we also have the ability to do it as it happens, T&D is a monthly magazine, so sometimes they will be lagging behind a bit.

With regard to your printer cartridge story, I can guarantee that the facts were checked out before they put it in the magazine and credit where credit is due, you are quite articulate, if you presented the full facts, there wasn’t much else they could do than rewrite your story, it was a matter of public record, a theft occured from a lorry, so it’s pertinent to a magazine about lorries.
