Mice at tsco have it better

As a driver if you think you may be on a night out you take an overnight bagIf your a tramper you take enough gear for how ever long you are out for
So if its hot - PACK SOME [zb] SHORTS
Here endeth the lesson
Alot RDCs don’t allow shorts was even told about one last week (asda) who complained to the company because the driver was wearing blue jeans. This is how ridiculous things have gotten.

There are places that don’t allow shorts!
Agreed but there are loads of places that do
waynedl:
I agree that it’s [zb]’ annoying to be honest and I’ve caused a right stink about it in the past.I usually hand in car keys or similar and pull trailer brake so I don’t accidently forget the car keys when I leave - my memory IS that bad.
I was on boxes, and some jobs could take 6hrs or more, and they’d take your keys, meaning you couldn’t secure your truck if you went the loo, for food etc, our company told me that the insurance pretty much said this was a no no. Also, the company I worked for and the companies I was delivering to both said they wouldn’t cover anything stolen from truck…
It really does need to stop.
I remember going to 1 place, rules were, hi vis, hard hat, goggles, gloves and steelies, get out of truck, trailer brake on, red air line off, suzi lock thing on trailer, trailer wheels chocked, and keys handed in… OTT anyone?
Of course it’s OTT.
Question: For the forum legal eagles;
When RDC’s or whoever take your truck keys for whatever reason.
Who’s legally in charge of the vehicle?
Sammy you get what you put up with,If I were the boss in the RDC and saw you all bake like fools I would gather the staff around and say wach this ,I am going to order them to put a shirt and tye on…have you not heard the word NO.
good job none of you are machine operators
woof woof
Delivered to an RDC a few years ago, same old crap. Hand in keys, go back to truck, wait for green light, pick up keys and paperwork and leave.
Sound infallible doesn’t it ?
Waited for green light and picked up my paperwork and keys, and pulled off bay, went to close back doors and there is a guy in there with a pallet truck.
“can you back up to the bay and let me off please driver”
What had happened was I had a split load and the guy who had finished unloading had turned the red light to green but had not closed the door.
( I know at most places the red light will not come on until the door is closed this wasn’t so at this place)
Up comes his mate and sees the rest of the load on the truck and thinks it’s his, and drives onto the truck
I used to deliver to RDCs all the time and in 45 years of driving it was the only time it had happened, but the guy unloading was very lucky. I wonder what would have happened if I had pulled off and he had been hurt.
I think the green light would have been quickly changed to red.
Just goes to show no matter how careful you are accidents do happen.
It’s not the taking of keys that bother me or indeed the waiting in waiting rooms if they were as pleasant as the cab of my Volvo. Take Iceland Warrington for example you wait in canteen on sofas with a big telly plenty of refreshments and even a pool table. But then take Iceland Livingston on the other hand, small cold smelly dirty waiting room with a manky coffee machine and about 5 hard back chairs for about 15 drivers.
There seems to be no consistency between one site run by the same company to another. Sometimes the same site has different ideas of safety like iceland Swindon say its ok to wait in your lorry when tipping chill but not when tipping frozen, it’s madness.
if u drive a scanny do what i do when its too warm pull front grill down sit there with a book and enjoy
How about just growing some.
Whilst the RDC is holding the keys who is responsible for the motor?
Whilst the RDC is holding the keys and the fire alarm goes off what happens to the motor?
Ask these to the security bod and they wont have a clue, ask to take it further and you will cause them more hassle than they cause you,
Grow some balls and give it a go, stand up and be counted weasel.
@B1 GGK
I asked the same question a while back.
ie When RDC’s or whoever take your truck keys for whatever reason.
Who’s legally in charge of the vehicle?
Seems no-one knows the answer.

Take it further, ask to see their H+S and HR people, they dont want or need the hassle so will relent, and they cant throw you off site for asking to see a suit
In an ideal world they couldn’t, and they wouldn’t throw you off site but they would and have rang the my company and told them not to send certain drivers back to their sites. 95% of places I go take your keys and/or make you wait in a scaby waiting room so if I was to kick up a stink in everyplace id quickly be out of a job. These stupid rules have become the norm now so we just have to grin and bear it.
I can understand why drivers that don’t go to RDCs think it’s ridiculous and we should tell them to ■■■■ off but that’s the way it is doing this work, when I was on the skips and went to a building site and someone got arsey or rude I would give them a mouthful back and drive away and the skip company would take my side. Unfortunately it’s not like that now and the driver is treated like a moron that needs to be controlled like a badly behaved child.
At the end of the day, its their site and their rules. You don’t like it then don’t go, you want to work then you have to put up with it.
I do alot of RDC work, and never encounter many of the problems people moan about. I just go in, comply with what ever daft new rule they have, smile and wait, get my notes and keys and go. Not exactly rocket science. Plus I’ve seen drivers who kick off made to wait longer, mainly for the entertainment of the goods in staff.
Why don’t you tell your boss you ain’t going? Why don’t you challenge their rules? You won’t because you know you’ll get banned/sacked.

You’ll find there’s a thread about this, and as usual the drivers give it all the “just get on with it, there’s no jobs etc”, the company told me that insurance states that I am responsible and the insurance wouldn’t cover anything stolen, whether that’s my stuff out of the truck or the actual truck itself.
The place I was delivering to also wouldn’t cover anything stolen or damaged.
So, I refused to give them the keys and got banned from site.

I got caught up in a building evacuation at a DC when they had my keys, because I wasnt employed by the DC’s company they had no interest in my or the motors welfare, just a ‘ring your boss’ attitude, It got to the stage where I was following the H+S manager of Northern Foods around to ensure I got sorted out due to their rules.

Good point this one. I would also like to know the answer.
And I would also like to know what gives some sites the right to demand you to surrender your phone, laptop, cigarette lighters, etc, etc. before entering their premesis and handing them over to some complete stranger of a security guard and in many cases I’ve found they don’t even keep a record of who’s stuffs who’s and just show you all the stuff they’ve collected and ask which is yours when you depart. Don’t we have any rights to our own property? and to protect it?
When you go to a bad one, take your camera and record any however small breaches of HS.rEMEMBER RIGHT IS MIGHT, .If these rdc are so bad they must be in breach of lots of HS rules as far as drivers are concerned, dont put up with it take them on,dont take the easy way ,what did someone say just smile give keys wait then drive off my god you will never get respect like this.

Don’t take this the wrong way but - why don’t all you drivers that have to put up with this [zb] join the Union that represent the Tanker Drivers. Maybe then something will be done to enhance and humanise your jobs? Why do you all put up with this [zb]?
Yup I did that, left a good job to work for Wincanton on the farm milk collection, joined UNITE the ■■■■■■■ wasters and was made redundant six months later along with nearly half the other drivers on that contract. The union to be honest were a complete waste of time, when I went to my appeal all I was told was that the union were a part of the rules for redundancy so anything you say won’t be considered. Maybe 28 milk drivers aren’t worth the money to the union of all the fuel tanker drivers involved, just says to me ■■■■ the union I’ll get the ■■■■ out of there.
