And I would also like to know what gives some sites the right to demand you to surrender your phone, laptop, cigarette lighters, etc, etc. before entering their premesis and handing them over to some complete stranger of a security guard and in many cases I’ve found they don’t even keep a record of who’s stuffs who’s and just show you all the stuff they’ve collected and ask which is yours when you depart. Don’t we have any rights to our own property? and to protect it?
The handing over of laptops, phones, stoves, etc might be a bit OTT, but i can understand in certain cases. You had to hand over stuff like that when you entered the place in Ardeer that made munitions for obvious reasons. But you are right about handing it over to a complete stranger. They also didn’t record what you surrendered to them at the gatehouse. Likewise,on your way out, you just pointed to the tray that contained your belongings and they handed it over. No questions. Could have been someone elses stuff you got if you wanted.

Even though these chemical firms reckon they must have such draconian policies for h+s reasons I can’t see why they should be allowed to get away with not providing some kind of locker and making some kind of effort to act socially responsibly.
They’re just being stingy, oppressive, arkward and cavalier with other peoples property imho.
i have only had to hand stuff over twice once was at a chemical plant in southampton they were great put it in a numbered slot etc not a problem the other time was at leeds prison mobile sat nav etc anyone who has ever been into the prison will know before u go in u get the waggon searched inside locked type hall way anyway on my way out he said he couldnt find my mobile so i plan and simply refused to move untill they found it took em ten mins but it was found eventually
Sorry, how did they get your keys if the doors were locked and the windows shut? If you really were like the trapped dog mentioned. If the doors weren´t locked then don´t worry, the concerned passer-by could simply open the door when they see your distress. No need to break anything. Or you could open then yourself.
