This one’s especially for TheBoy2010;
Don’t know which keen young driver tarted this one up
I remember welding a floor in the body of this one and the sister eight wheeler to it (N317 FLL)

Those Charrold bodies were light but they showed their age quicker than the Charltons’ that Smiths switched to buying, when you consider Smiths didn’t do as much muck then as they do now. Roy Molloy did a grand job of refurbishing the engine on N318; It was gutless when I took it on and it could keep up with the new motors after he’d finished.
Danny Baxter had N317 when I had N318 (we’d started about a month apart).
Old lorry meets new lorry (who’s becoming old lorry now but still a good 'un). The late Eddie Harrison (RIP) was hanging around the yard on that day waiting to take my old one.

I also remember taken the body off of M369 CLR the one ■■■■ stacker drove and replating the whole under side of the back end. It was the easyest way to repair it cause she was so rotten.
Muckaway:
Formerly M369 CLR. It was sold to TT Concrete Products at Gill Mill and had its’ steel tipper removed and this concrete batcher fitted. It was never used on the road by them, just as a dumper for filling pre-cast moulds. It’s now at Pavestone at Burford Road quarry, Brize Norton (formerly Bekstone) although not in use.
Here’s another view
Here you go Richard…
Started life as F520 RBY with 350 Cat
Cat engine removed and ■■■■■■■ 500 put in and re registered as G561 WLY
Replaced in 2002 with RJ02 JWN…Which is approaching retirement age.
…I’m saying nothing about the driver as mum might show him this
Stupid question,I know ,I know, but is Nathan B and Muckster one and the same person by any chance ? Dennis.
A very nice lorry to drive. I’m not completely sure but I understand it was sold to Prossers (Fryske posted a pic of W845 that they bought too).

It was a quarry that Smiths took over that was nearly worked out and part filled with inert. They did get permission to quarry a bit more stone out and used the site for recycling but most has been filled in and returned to farmland and the weighbridge and stockpile area has been sold to Fraser Evans Tyre Recycling. They’ve got 2 more stone pits near Burford; Burford and Whitehill. Whitehill is closer to Burford but is mothballed at the moment. It used to be Kingston Minerals and then ARC when I was a kid but has been unused for years.
Broadway’s finished but a new Cotswold Stone pit is opening near Chipping Norton soon…
Wet and windy Great Tew yesterday morning
No, not a Jippo camp but a concrete shed/garage works we deliver to between Broadway and Stratford on Avon. Meon Hill is in the distance, “an area of outstanding natural beauty”

We have two mothballed quarries in Radnorshire, both owned by Tarmac. One is Nash quarry near Presteigne about 3 miles from me.The other is Rhayader quarry about 20 miles from here. Both have massive reserves of good stone and have licences,so will reopen some day.I expect there will be a few protests when they do,but they provide much needed employment for this area.
Cheers Dave.
We’ve got planning going through at the moment to extend Gill Mill and there’s talk of the building of a muck washing plant at GM too. From what I’ve been told, the Council are keen on the recycling as it boosts their govt targets but the idea was put on hold due to the recession. Our crushing/screening now does various sizes and blends of ■■■■■■■■ to replicate crushed stone. The type 1 crushed concrete is very good and several customers use it instead of type 1 stone.
I’ve noticed that the demand for road planings seems to have dropped…
