Is anyone having problems with routing on this device? I am back driving full time now and some of the routes it chooses are ridiculous. The only thing it seems to care about are weight limits and bridge heights. It took me through Painswick yesterday and a couple of days ago through Petworth. Neither of which were artic friendly. It appears to have gone to Brockworth via Painswick to avoid a 7.5 tonne weight limit that does not start till after the delivery postcode. Obviously I know better now for next time but not much help first time going somewhere new. At least I know not to trust it now. From now on the Phillips trucker atlas will be added to my bag.
Have you put in all the dimensions and also fastest/shortest route etc. It will also provide 2 alternative routes.

It is set to Truck length 18.00 width 2.40 height 4.50 axle 10.00
Route planning set to when a faster route is available always take the fastest route
Always plan this type of route is set to Fastest route
I wonder if it was trying to take me around traffic delays, if so saving 5 minutes is not worth the aggro of tight country lanes.
It will use live traffic for routing

Would your width not be 2.55

triler is 2.4 wide but I suppose 2.55 if you add mirrors. I will try that. But I am fairly sure it is weight limits that are the problem.
Hi,
Im not sure which model i have but we have company provided trucker tomtoms, and have also come across this problem. Most of the time it will be good and send you the best way but then other times it tries to take you miles out of your way when you know that a route a lot quicker is height/weight friendly or will try to take you down a road that may not have weight restrictions but will be the old unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles, which i dont think the tomtoms recognise.
An example is the past couple of weeks my last delivery on the south wales run has been llandovery, camarthenshire and then heading home towards the M50/M5, you know the quickest route would be straight across the A40 and then back up the M50 and M5, everytime you put it into the tomtom it will route you off the A40 down to methyr tydfil and then back onto the a40 the other side of abergavenny, i followed the a40 on the screen of the tomtom and found a little tiny bit of the restriction mark on the route which it was avoiding every time, now i dont know if there used to be a bridge or weight restriction at some point in the past or whether it is just a glitch in the tomtom but there definitly is nothing there that should make it route you miles out of your way for no reason.
I also use mine in conjunction with the phillips trucker atlas which is great as if its a route im unfamiliar with i never trust the device enough to not give the route a quick vetting to make sure there are no surprises along the way.
Also the traffic updates are not always 100%, it may flash up with quite a long delay but by time you get to that point of the journey it may have cleared quite a bit but still have the original delay displayed, and in the mean time tried to reroute you down sometimes some pretty sketchy routes.
It sounds as though im really slating the devices but overall they are ok, ive had mine a while now and know when and when not to trust it, as long as it used with common sense and abide by signs displayed on the road then they can be a decent addition.
Very easy fix…
Leave the thing at home and navigate without it.
it is possible
I have the same problem with mine! I’d say 80% of the time it’s fine but at other times it does the stupidest route plan known to man. It seems to think weight limits only apply to the first 50 yards of the road. So if I’m trying to go to a building site thats half a mile up a weight limit which is except for access so no problem for me it’ll send me round all sorts of unsuitable streets that bring me into the into the road I need somewhere between the start of the road and the site. I now check the route it’s chosen by zooming in and making sure the last bit doesn’t resemble a hieroglyphic symbol
My ancient snooper s2000 was better in many ways and as a bonus actually showed bridge heights and weight limits on the screen. The only redeeming feature I can find for the tom-tom is the traffic stuff which is very accurate. On balance I wish I’d just updated my snooper to the latest maps and pocketed the difference
Thanks it seems I am not the only one. I think old fashioned navigating and box full of a to z maps is the way forward. Tomorrow I have easy day 2 x collections from Leamington starting from Crick. I would go via Daventry and Southam, but lets see what Tomtom thinks.
Mine was not the best at routing and extremely slow at planning a route. I use one from truck tables (chris)

Oh yeah, route planning does take forever but I think that’s because of the traffic feature as it takes a hell of a lot longer in the south east with all its congestion than the depths of Cornwall or similar so I forgive it that as I do like the traffic feature.
Have you updated it, don’t seem to have problems like this, unless their is a road closure on the obvious route.
Mines bang up to date? Did it last weekend.
Had mine for a day tried to take me through 6ft 6 width restrictions 7.5 weight limits with a 44t artic. Also kept freezing.
Went back to my £40 chinese xgody 886.

Can I suggest turning off the auto reroute around delays option as it seems to work it out way in advance and doesn’t switch back if the blockage goes away. Its useful for over 15 min delays but not less in my experience.

Mine asks me if I want to take alternative route , I have to press ok for it to reroute

Normal routing seems to work fine with tom toms, its the re-routing that lets it down.

Ditch the Sat nav get yourself a good truck map… best way IMO

I use the Philips Truck atlas - or at least I did. I’ve found it to be unreliable. Twice down south it was wrong about bridge heights, luckily there was still ample room for me to get under, but on Saturday morning I had to use an alternative route due to a road closure ( was within a few miles of my destination and the diversion was out of the way) Checked the map for a clear route up an A road, it looked fine and it was only a few miles until I joined back onto the main road I needed, no probs. Had a double decker on and soon found myself up against a 15’3 bridge that wasn’t even marked on the map and didn’t have any signage on the roads until I was at it [emoji35]! Had to reverse a mile back up a country road until I could turn. Just a word of warning not to rely solely on the map when checking for bridge heights.
