Tomtom trucker 6000 problems with routing

When did you last update it connecting to the website

Is anyone having problems with routing on this device? I am back driving full time now and some of the routes it chooses are ridiculous. The only thing it seems to care about are weight limits and bridge heights. It took me through Painswick yesterday and a couple of days ago through Petworth. Neither of which were artic friendly. It appears to have gone to Brockworth via Painswick to avoid a 7.5 tonne weight limit that does not start till after the delivery postcode. Obviously I know better now for next time but not much help first time going somewhere new. At least I know not to trust it now. From now on the Phillips trucker atlas will be added to my bag.

I use the Philips Truck atlas - or at least I did. I’ve found it to be unreliable. Twice down south it was wrong about bridge heights, luckily there was still ample room for me to get under, but on Saturday morning I had to use an alternative route due to a road closure ( was within a few miles of my destination and the diversion was out of the way) Checked the map for a clear route up an A road, it looked fine and it was only a few miles until I joined back onto the main road I needed, no probs. Had a double decker on and soon found myself up against a 15’3 bridge that wasn’t even marked on the map and didn’t have any signage on the roads until I was at it [emoji35]! Had to reverse a mile back up a country road until I could turn. Just a word of warning not to rely solely on the map when checking for bridge heights.

Phillips map is completely useless, didn’t update atleast three bridges they missed last time, i sent the latest one straight back.

Here is an example of what I mentioned earlier. I had just left a site today and was heading towards Norwich. The most direct way as right at the roundabout taking me onto a decent road but the tomtom thought the little stretch only is a weight limit when in fact the whole road in the direction It was sending me is a weight limit as well and is a very narrow lane!!! Had I have not been more switched on it would have added about 5 or 6 miles to the journey to boot! Crazy [emoji12]

Jeez! Another thread that’s gone into “massive view”! C’mon lads, get posting, lets take this to page two where hopefully normality will return.

I post on this using tapatalk so it all looks normal to me. How do I add pictures without making it go widescreen? [emoji46]
On second thoughts…I’ll get my coat shall I? [emoji22]

No worries dude, wasn’t having a pop at you my friend, it’s just bloody frustrating reading it on an I pad. You carry on as you are buddy, page two will sort it.

I’d love to get posting Maoster, trouble is i’ll be accused of being a dinosaur because in my honest to goodness opinion a sat nav should never ever be used to route plan for a lorry driver, and people don’t want to hear such views any more.

So i won’t say that, instead i’ll suggest spending Christ knows how much on the competition instead, Snooper or summat innit? about £400 and probably actually cost about £1 2s 6d to make in real money.

No, ■■■■■■■■ i will say it.
Stop using bloody satnavs to plan routes, they are needed by snowflakes and uni kids who can’t find their way to the offie or supermarket or even find their way bloody home without a bloody satnav, but a lorry driver should be way above such creatures.
I have no problem in using them for what they are good for, a pocket sized street map of the country, a handy companion to keep running as you travers the route you planned yourself earlier, for they are good at spotting unmarked turnings and for traffic and speed camera locations if you have one so equipped, and they are great at assisting you in the final stages in a strange area.
BUT they should never be relied on and they should never be used to plan a route by a professional driver.

There, hopefully page 2 is a stage closer, don’t want to upset the Maoster :sunglasses:

I do sort of agree with you and I do tend to use my map book as well as google maps when things could become tricky. Anyway, I didn’t take the satnavs stoopid route. I carried on to the roundabout and turned right because I’d checked the route in my truckers atlas [emoji4]

Yep, you’re correct, page two is closer. You won’t upset me though mate, 'cos we’re cut from the same cloth; both a pair of old ■■■■■ who despair at the way things are headed! I actually think of myself as late twenties, problem comes when I look in the mirror and see my Dad looking back at me!

I actually found myself shouting at the radio today when that Janey bird on the Steve Wright show was ranting about how her sat nav had sent her on the wrong road when she admitted that she knew it was wrong and she bloody followed its instructions! I’m shouting “it didn’t make you go anywhere you dippy cow, you’re in control of the steering wheel”. There, that’s better, rant over.

Mines bang up to date? Did it last weekend.

just updated mine …took nearly 2 hours :frowning: I’m mostly on rural routes , a lot of weight/width restrictions so usually have to ignore the sat nav if I’m pretty sure my map reading is right and I’m going in the general direction , the tt5150 would eventually give up telling me" turn around where possible" and basically get on with the job . however the 6000 would take me round in circles looking for a better (truck friendly) route all day if took any notice of it ■■? same with bridges , I’m at 13ft 10inch and go under a 14 foot bridge regular , no problem with 5150 but 6000 wont entertain it ■■ it works okay on urban routes where there either aren’t any restricted roads or perhaps its found a non retricted route ■■ all in all imho the 5150 is better for rural work , or if you have a phillips atlas for bridge heights a car sat nav would be ok.

The pink is a road closure ,maybe overnight but Tom tom reads it as permanent, the other obstacles are mapshare stuff. Some folks don’t want lorries down their way so put weight height width restrictions on. ,then they put it on mapshare.never used to be able to use Dartford northbound cos of a small 7.5 ton weight limit.go into map corrections if that’s available!E, it’s a pain but move obvious.restriction off.

I wish the AA would re-issue their lorry driver atlases, available in two scales, both superior to the Philips for clear easy to read mapping and accuracy.

The pink road isn’t a road closure. Based on the dimensions of your truck that you’ve put into the tomtom, the pink road means it’s unsuitable for your vehicle.

So on a go730 with the truck card in the M6 or M5 are not wide enough, and that’s using a TMC power lead

Well on my 6000(which is the device this thread is about), pink, like I described in my last post, means it’s unsuitable for your vehicle based on the dimensions you’ve entered into the tomtom and a road closed is shown as red and white chevrons.

Well we both just learnt something, TomTom has altered restriction markers but not bothered to tell everyone. Lesson learned methinks.
