tomtom truck

Got my one XL going last week and its working well.

I had the navcore with uk maps and it had tomtom work and lane guidance and I dont have that and changing options is only possible after putting in route but it directs me around bridges and limits and thats all I require.

Had to upgrade to latest bootloader and a 4gb sdhc 6x card.

gezt:
been using it for a few weeks now and confirm it does actually avoid your set height for bridges and width/weight restrictions,
still look at me paper map for double check but tomtom has been spot on sofar
as said its on a go520.

How did you get it on a 520? I tried to put it on a mates and I couldn’t get it to find the map on the sd card

Anybody got it working properly on a 710 or a 910
I tryed it on both of them today but i dont get any menu option to change vechicle size
Im useing truck map and the x20 navecore for the truck map
First time i installed it on the 910, i was able to enter vechicle size at first startup but no opition to change it in the menu afterwards so i formated the hd and installed again, this time it didnt give me any option to enter vehicle details, i now looking at changing the bootloader
Anyone got any eye deer

sorted

PEM1 did it for me ,i am going to get the software off him and he is going to show mw how to do it. (he a good bloke like that) basicly he copies a mirror image of his card then changes the number from his unit to mine . :open_mouth: he is a bit clever like that.
you cant just get a copy on an sd card and use it (pity really)

stupid question but would it work on a tom tom one xl?

No it wont

Yes it will. I’ve just got this working on my One XL.

Although the navcores are labelled for go x30, etc they will still work on other Tomtoms.

I installed all the truck stuff to a 2gb SD card (about a fiver from ebay).

If I leave the SD card out, the system acts as a normal Tomtom. With the SD card in, it uses Tomtom Truck.

Tested it and it routes around the low bridge near work, and also keeps me out of narrow roads, etc.

aranger:
On XL I have planning prefrences.

Two choices, never use IQ routes for trucks.

Change vehicle profile, but it just throws you back to main screen when choosing this.

No truck symbol.

When you plan a route, a screen will come up showing your vehicle profile - on the bottom left there is a “change” button - push that and it will take you to the page where there is the truck symbols, etc.

Only downside to using this on the One XL is that it takes ages to start up.

Cheers Mike I got it working recently but noticed it was different with some options missing but it works and I don`t care about all the extras to be honest.

Mine actually starts up a lot quicker now and gets a signal in no time at all.

i gave up trying to get it to work on one xl got any tips?

Several firms I have driven for recently made me sign paperwork saying I’ll never use sat-nav while driving their trucks. Apparently the numpties keep getting stuck. I wouldn’t have minded except I had been there a week before they told me :unamused:
My phone has TomTom on anyway (and Google maps), so I just change the screen over in the yard.

[edit]looks like the servers battery has run down again. I posted this comment at 02.36, but it shows up as 12.42 am. Even allowing for UTC that’s over an hour out.

Mr B:
i gave up trying to get it to work on one xl got any tips?

From memory, I did the following

  • copied everything from the XLs internal memory to a folder on my PC so I had an image of the existing working system
  • deleted the maps sub-folder within the image
  • copied the downloaded truck maps folder into the image folder
  • ran the patcher to activate the maps for my device
  • followed the instructions that came with the 8.070 navcore and patched the ttsystem file
  • copied all files within that came with navcore and the patched ttsystem to the image folder, replacing any previous versions
  • using a card reader, copied the contents of the image folder to the root of a formatted 2gb SD card

Doing it that way, I can have the latest car maps/navcore on the XLs internal memory, and all of the truck system on the card. Just insert/remove the card depending on whether you’re in a truck or your car.

i don’t think the one xl has an internal memory. does it?
what you’ve discribed is how i’ve done my tt720 but for some reason it doesn’t work on my spare one xl

Yeah, it has internal memory - mine came without a card but with UK maps pre-installed.

I’ve updated the internal maps to 8.3■■■ and the internal navcore to 8.4■■

The truck maps/navcore are quite out of date now but it’s the only ones that will run so they stay seperate on the sd card.

my one xl doesn’t have internal memory maybe that’s why it won’t work

Must be some model differences.

You could still do it on a card though… or even have two cards, one for your existing system, one for truck.

It should work on any tomtom.

If it is not you are not installing eveything correctly.

agreed, so far i’ve installed it on several tomtoms (5■■, 7■■ and 9■■)without problem but i still can’t get it to work on my spare one xl, it’s doing my head in!!!

What is the problem?

Does it switch on?

I might be wrong, but believe all Ones have only a 1GB internal memory, which half of most others and nowhere near enough. But, I believe you can put Truck Nav (Map + Navcore) on a SD card and then get it to work that way.

Yes you can but not on the tomtom one 3rd edition as it does not have an sd card slot.
