Fair point, but i’m sure drivers of yesteryear, in the days before satnav never had any problems storing them somewhere.
so need sat nav! TOM TOM! GARMIN TRUCK! Which is best? Tried Snooper not for me.

Why not ?
Yep i was one of those who would never have a satnav, spawn of the devil.
However when Trafficmaster stopped selling YQ units, and eventually turned the signal off i was stumped for live traffic info, so the search for replacement was on.
Eventually i ended up buying a Garmin 1490T satnav, i chose Garmin as traffic is free for life whilst TT charge you every year, sod 'em i ain’t having me pants pulled down by shysters.
TBH the job i’m on now i almost never take the thing cos we go to regular drops and are never pushed so traffic isn’t a problem, but traffic knowledge came in very handy on the transporters as ducking and diving round alternative routes isn’t to be recommended.
Despite wanting to detest the satnav i found it very useful, huge screen on the 1490.
I don’t use it for route finding, that is a drivers job and best left to one with common sense, very handy to have a complete A to Z of the country in a wallet sized package though, just punch in and see roughly where in a town you need to go, then use the satnav to guide you in the last few miles, used like that they are brilliant, especially being able to see exactly where a turn off is and know its the right one even if the council can’t be arsed to put a sign on it.
As Beatty would say, very useful Anthony.
the cheapest garmin without any bells or whistles will be eons ahead of any tomtom, including the top of the line version. even a high-end clarion is crap as well.
I have the Garmin 1490t too. It’s going on e-bay. I’m skint!
ive had a tom tom for yonks, but really only use the “time to destination” bit to see if i will need a break before i get there
just need know which is best? or most used?

Do you prefer Ford or Vauxhall, Scania or Volvo.
Nothing between them other than peoples preferences.
Either will do the job fine, if you don’t need or want traffic info you can buy the cheapest, no difference worth mentioning.

As far as I know Snooper is most used by drivers on here as I hear Snooper mentioned more than anything else
I was used to tomtom, specially for the car, but bought a Snooper S5000 couple of days a go as I heard its better than tomtom for the truck specifically ready for when I finally get a job and was pleasantly surprised when I had a test in the car. Its really good
Think if the choice is between Garmin and tomtom though, tomtom would have to be the better one, if your buying truck specific then tomtom 7150 is a good one.

I have got a Garmin 465T and it has never done me wrong. I only drive a rigid but still find it invaluable, but as others have hinted always use in conjunction with you eyes and a lot of common sense because nothing is perfect. if you go with the Garmin you can buy map updates (4 per year) for the life of the sat nav for under £60 from ebay.
Must admit stupid question. Just wanted to see what people using majority useual wins! Im a daffy duck man meself!
I use maps and google maps on my I phone perfect combo
stick to A-Z then! Have to build an extension!

I would have to guess you’ve never had to use them but here are the main differences: it is unbelievably difficult to get an overview of your route on a tomtom. you need to access different menus and finally you get a map of the place you were some time ago, then you need to scroll the map for your current location. the same operation with garmin requires one touch of the screen. this is why I believe 99% of trucks stuck in town centres etc are using a tomtom. you never really know, where you’re going. also the graphics are loads better on a garmin and it’s quite faster as well.
I’ve got a garmin 560 truck and it’s going back to fine blitz for a refund …mines really slow on routing some times gets to 99 percent and just stays there …might just be a faulty unit …but I’m having a refund …to be fair though when it’s routed it seems ok …
