TomTom 5150 problem

Anyone had a problem with the sound on these?

It’s been working fine since this morning, checked the correct settings and reset it but no luck.

Mine works fine. The only problem I have is that I can`t update the free map share service But I have told that’s a on going problem with tomtom

Never had this problem when i was driving but then again i used a road map and a load of A to Zs never got lost once.

The sat nav is a great tool to have, I used maps for years but bought this back in July. I’ll still have a flick through the map but it makes life a lot easier, especially outside the UK :sunglasses:

Don’t really know if this will help but just might be worth your while going into a computer repair shop they should be able to get into the soft ware to adjust the volume setting for you I am no computer wizard but does sound like a soft ware problem to me god luck. :bulb:

I had mine a week and sent it back worst truck sat nav ever i now have a snooper far superior better routing

how to fix the sound issue …

hold down the power button until it makes the drum sound (it can take a few seconds). it doesn’t lose any favourites you set or anything else

I had a problem with mine where it would not finish updating and hung for hours. Could not update a thing. Also when I used it first time it lost the satellite constantly and was absolutely useless. Ended up sending it back to TomTom and demanding a refund. They installed a firmware update to fix the GPS bug and updated the software so that it finishes updating form the computer. So far works OK but have not tested it in a truck yet :unamused:

i came to the conclusion that the 5150 was no more than a car sat nav with a bridge and weight program on it judging by the routes it turns out

Yes you still have to check the map as it will happily take you down a street wide enough for the “juggernaut”  but of course it does not know that loads of women have parked their 4X4 both sides of the road to take their little darlings into school :unamused:

Sat navs don’t “take” anyone anywhere, people take people places. Think of your sat nav as having your ma in law sat beside you criticising and offering helpful tips! Treat it like you’d treat her advice and you won’t go far wrong.

i have to say i had an s2000 snooper for 3 years bought 2nd hand on here and it has never put me wrong so i have opted for the s5000 tyo replace it so far so good

I have to reset mine at least once a week! I’ve only had it 4 months. I’m not impressed by it at all. it tried taking me through a 7.5t weight restriction today, in the past its tried taking me through a 7’ width restriction. set it to ADR commence my journey from Erith heading to barnet hospital bloody thing wanted to take me through the city and not dartford tunnel

Don’t be lazy! Report it to Tom Tom. Takes couple of mins of your timeand next time youand other Tom Tom users won’t be sent here and there.
Was sent towards 14"6 bridge bearing in mind Tom Tom was set over 15", because it used to be like that

So let’s help each other!

Spot on Zanfta. That’s what Tomtom Mapshare is supposed to be all about - people reporting errors which then get corrected and shared amongst everyone else.

This thread has dropped me right back into the quandary of whether to go for a tom tom or a snooper. The endless, unanswerable question rolls on!

Had mine a year never had a problem until recently after a road has been closed for 1 or 2 nights
for road works or an accident on the M25 or the M1 recently it stays closed & diverts you even
when it’s open.

Trust me …Snooper all day !

Got my TomTom plugged into the computer now. To 6/7 attempts for it to connect to MyDrive which is absolute pants! So got 3 updates to do. Time left now 28 minutes and it is 17%. I have to keep browsing as the screensaver halts download, the security disrupts it and I dare not touch the lead connecting it to the computer. In fact if the guy next door sneezed it would probably disconnect and I would have to start again. I am dreading taking this out on the road. Thought it was £350 well spent, what a rip off. I also don’t like the new heavy base the TomTom sits in. It is an awkward angle and the old car one was much easier, this is clumsy…

end of rant

So turn the screensaver off…

Although it doesn’t look like it, the thing is actually quite good at resuming an interrupted download/update. Bloody frustrating though.
