Got home Friday, didn’t run in Saturday, still got another two days off and weather couldn’t be better. Only problem is I still wake up at bloody 5am and consider 6am is a sleep in. I am having to be quiet around the house for about 3 hrs before the wife gets up, any one else get itchy feet with time off or is it just me that wants to get away Tuesday?
Its just you.
I work to live, I dont live to work. Im not back until Wednesday but wish it was Thursday.
Enjoy your time off regardless. If your bored get a hobby.
I suppose it depends on your work, I enjoy my work, I also enjoy been away from home to an extent, I like been at home for a weekend but 3 days to me is excessive and it will probably sound sad to some. Must be others like me.
I get up at 5 Monday to Friday…Saturday and Sunday I m wide awake at 5 …need to have at least a week off before Instart waking up at 8 or later.
I’ve had jobs where I would spend all day Sunday dreading Monday morning. Since I’ve been a truck driver I ve never had this…so …
no it isn’t just you.
I sort of enjoy my work bud, but it doesnt mean I want to spend my time off there or get itchy feet wanting to go back to work after 2 days off.
Do you take your 20 - 25 days paid holiday entitlement?
Some guys where I work want to spend every hour of the day at work and never take their full holiday entitlement.
I dont get it myself - but each to their own I suppose.

.
The reason some people work all the time and don’t want to take time off is Debt. They can’t afford time off.

Yes it’s just you.
If you feel like that then you have not done the job bloody long enough.
(Btw…Was it not you recently who tried to lecture me on life’s priorities? )
My priority is not work no matter how I do or do not enjoy it.
There is more to life than driving a ■■■■ truck.
Relax and enjoy your time off.
Cycling is a great early morning hobby!

oh perhaps that was me lecturing you rob, but then I always go extreme and do what I say and not as I do. I started driving in 1979 and have done it years on and off but not probably as long as others who have done nothing but. I doubt it will be just me though. I enjoy holidays away from home but just sat at home with nothing particular special to do, I would rather be at work.

I do cycling too, I only do around 20 miles so after that I am either too knackered to go farther or get bored after a few hours.
As much as I love the job, 4 days off never seems quite long enough.
I’m just a very lucky donkey . I’m equally happy at work and at home.

I am happy with both, I need to be active more than sitting around at home, I choose driving for the variety of work that I do. I am in general haulage now and it suits me, although I still fancy tankers or car transporting as a challenge. Company I work for now is as good as you get with general haulage.

Ok, we’ll have to agree to differ then.
I cherish my time at home after doing so many years tramping and away from home for different lengths of time, that is THE main reason I volunteered to cut back on my hours, and kick into touch the ridiculous 70+ hour week scenario.
I would take early retirement tomorrow if I was financially viable to do so, but I aint so I stick with it.
As for having ‘nothing to do’… time at home with my Mrs and family is enough for me, and we always find something to do (in between me being on Trucknet and/or watching football ) even if it’s just something simple like go into town for a coffee or something.
I have a long weekend this week and next, we are spending it away next week for a break, so I’m looking forward to it.
Tramping is a lifestyle as well as a job, but I can knock off it like it’s on a switch, and adapt very easily to life at home chilling out.
I can honestly say I have never sat on holiday wishing to be back at it in all the years I have done it.

rob, only reason why I wouldn’t publish who I work for on here is that it only takes one hater to put a silly complaint in or ring with some silly false accusation to cause a problem I can well do without. Hence my Avatar of a plain white Renault.

Ok fair enough, I’m the same, but for different reasons.
Any false accs by the well known dicks on here, would be looked upon with amusement, as they know me too well at my depot.
The only reasons I don’t make it known is because I have shown on here a lot of disagreement with head depot policies without naming them.
There are about 6 or so lads on here (some of the better members ) who know who I work for.
Even if it did come out I would just say ■■■■ it, and carry on. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, and tbf I have made stuff that I don’t agree with there verbally clear in the past if I felt the need.
You can’t beat time at home. Its precious.
I was off first week of august, then back for a couple of weeks, then long weekend because of bank holiday. It’s great.
I agree with OP about the waking up early bit though.

Same here rob, there are a very small number on here who know who I work for. I have grown a few haters on here as I am sure you will realise from some of my ■■■■ take posts.
In another driving job I was working some silly long hours. When I was at home I really was like a fish out of water. A stranger in my own house. Didnt turn out too well, not surprisingly. Anyway, different job now, most every weekend at home, usually fairly relaxed and not overtired and grumpy when I get home. Weekends are much too short now. Until I stood back and looked a what was happening I didn
t realize how screwed up my priorities were. Now I dont keep looking at the clock wondering how soon I can back to my little work cocoon, but thankfully I don
t dread going to work either. Im not saying I
ve got the perfect work/life balance, but so far it`s going well.

To be honest I know my priorities are all wrong. I live more for work now as I enjoy it more than I ever did, before I went to work just to earn the money and my priorities were to my family to give them a good life. I have done that now and look on this as me time. Selfish I know but I have never really liked work in the past.
