Threat from Clandestine Illegal Entrants at Calais

Seems to me that most of the illegals that I have seen caught have been found by the sniffer dogs.

My solution -Buy and use loads of ■■■■■■■ dogs - Simples

Hi Chris
Firstly I would not object giving info over if it saved us and our companies getting fined because some illegal jumps on us or axle grabs and tries to get the easy benefits out of the UK government which is not our fault so why fine us if they jump on us etc, sorry rant over. Speaking from experience the situation at Calais is massive as soon as trucks back up / turn up the illegals are out and about in the sidelines I was stuck at Calais for some 10 hours or so the other day when eurotunnel had its problems and the illegals were everywhere the gendarmes / port police / security did there best but when your stuck in a line then your knackered a truck in front of me was boarded by 5 illegals who just chased after him and got in back doors etc security got them and just moved them on to another area only for them to reappear half a mile down the road. In my opinion anything to prevent us drivers and companies being fined due to someone wanting to get on us is a good thing.

There is only one way to stop the clandestine trying to get to the UK and that is to make it unattractive to them. By the time they have reached the European border crossings it is too late, they have invested everything and just can’t turn back.
You can do what ever you want to try to detect them and someone somewhere will find a way to avoid that detection somehow and you will be back to square one.
I gave up driving on the continent just because I felt helpless at being able to stop them. Luckily I never got caught out, I did have enough of them get into my truck, but always found them before reaching the ports.
Every single clandestine in Calais will one day be in the UK as they have nowhere else to go, they can’t try to go home, they can’t live there indefinitely so they will just keep trying to come to the UK until they succeed.
I even feel sorry for the French, it isn’t their problem, these people would be staying in France if it had anything to offer, so we should offer exactly the same as France. Only then might they stop trying to get here.
Anyone who enters the UK illegally should be automatically returned to the last country they were in as well, so if someone comes to the UK from Calais they should be dragged straight back to Calais. If they want to apply for asylum they can do it from there. Remove the luxury of them having ANY entitlement if they don’t do things the correct way. Finally ANY clandestine found in the back of a truck should be charged with illegal entry into the vehicle and anyone with a criminal record should never be allowed to make a claim for asylum either. We just make everything too easy for them.

By the way, if I was from most of the countries these people come from I would be doing exactly the same. I don’t even blame them. It is our Government’s policies and EU regulations that are the cause of both theirs and our misery. Rant over!

Agree with your sentiments entirely Jimti. The only things I would change /add would be that they CANNOT apply for asylum whilst in the UK, it would have to done from “abroad”, and secondly, anyone found to have entered this country illegally WILL be returned to the country from which they originally claim to be escaping from. So, if you are caught here illegally and claim to be from Somalia, for example, then that is where you are going to be sent / deported straight back to! If you claim to be a gay male escaping persecution in the Yemen, tough, that is where you are going straight back to. No appeals, no Human Rights nonsense, no long stays in a “Holding Centre” being fed, watered and medically looked after at the UK tax payers expense. Nothing. Straight to Brize onto a Herc and gone. When that started to filter through the system im sure many would think twice about trying to get here.

As you say, we make it to easy for them and make this country far to attractive an option for them to try to get to.

Hi chris520j, bullitt, jimti and others

Again many thanks for the comments and opinions. I agree that the UK making itself unattractive to potential clandestine entrants and swift removal of those who make it to the UK are attractive solutions - but realistically, they are politically and legally difficult and not likely to happen. We do however need a quick deterrence/displacement/disruptive solution which the UK can apply right now which is legal, humane and effective and does not place an additional burden on drivers. My proposition is this: if there is a very good chance that clandestines will be ejected from loads before embarkation from Calais, will they pack it in and the organised crime groups turn to something else? It’s worth a try, surely.

In a word, no, (there already is a very good chance they will be ejected) they will just move to other ports “if” you can make it much much harder. I think the measures already in place “could” prevent all of them getting through, but time is the factor and of course the more time it takes the less likely drivers are going to use the port in the first place, so again moving the problem along. Only once the reason for going to the UK is removed will people stop trying to get in. That is the bottom line. I think the gangs who trade in people smuggling are already paid long before their customers get to Calais.

jimti,

You may well be right. But waiting for image-obsessed politicians to make such hard decisions means waiting in vain. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Chris, I am afraid I agree with jimti the illegals will always continue to try to get on the lorry’s etc until we (the UK) make it so unattractive / impossible that they don’t want to come / try to come here. They wait on the motorways / approaches to the shuttle / port and hit anything looking attractive or easy to get on they grab axles they hide behind wind deflectors they sit on the spare wheel holders break into trailers and all-sorts and if you get out to confront them then you stand a good chance of getting mugged / stabbed by the gangs of them waiting so I think if they are that desperate to get here to risk life and limb then we the UK have to as has been said make it unattractive and that is the main issue. However on the stopping them front what with all the gangs etc helping them I think it will take alot but maybe one day a solution will be found but until they remove the reason why they want to come here then we are going to find it hard. Sorry to be blunt but that’s my opinion, ref your suggestions I would welcome anything that would help the situation.
