This is getting depressing

having forked out a small fortune to train as a driver, I’m now banging my head against a brick wall.

one job offer 150 miles away, but only when I trim down a few stones.

Not worked for over 12 days now, the agency is so dry of everything from vans to class 1 (I’ll take any bone they’ll throw my way right now).

jobs applied for in areas I can find digs, but each and every one (around 45 now) have either said no due to lack of experience, or not enough jobs going at the moment. agencies in same areas saying the same - nothing available at the moment.

Rung 7 tesco depots nationwide asking for work, and all said "no driving jobs here and don’t know any depots advertiting).

Can’t raise a response from norbert dentressangle for the ikea depot doncaster.

royal mail don’t return calls or respond to web enquiries.

apparently dozens of jobs in hull but until I’ve worked a month or so I can’t afford to cross the bridge twice a day, or the extra fuel for the long way round - due to the cost of training skinting me out and the dry-spell with no work meaning I’m in the doo-doo.

what the hell is going out with this “crying out for drivers” crisis?
it seems the jobs out there are very choosy about who they take, experience-wise so can’t be THAT desperate!

If I don’t get a solid 2 weeks work in from Monday, the loans go unpaid, and then it’s a real uphill struggle.

and I REALLY don’t want to go back to trade-plating :frowning:

sorry about your predicament eg 78.just hang on in there something will turn up.just like arriva busses,3 jobs will turn up at once.best wishes m8.

El Gordo there is an Agency in Durham Crying out for Drivers, Coolchain in Gateshead are also recruiting Drivers and they as far as I know are offering around £8ph■■?

One nights Bed and Breakfast £20 in the Bensham area and ask them to keep you away all week

Maybe worth a thought if your desperate

El Gordo, I’m taking a wild guess from your comments about having to go over the bridge to Hull that you’re in the Grimsby area.

cheers for that

I’m in scunthorpe though, so a nice 30 mile each-way journey.
with fuel and the cost of tyres factored in (£200 every 6000 miles for new hoops) the job would pay the bills and nowt left over.

which is better than nowt though eh!

I’ll give coldchain a ring too. are there any depots down here for them?
the B&B idea is how I was going to work down northampton way as well  there’s a firm who can place you in digs, b&b or granny flats in most places for about £100 a week.

3.91ph - below minimum wage.

Hi Gordo…try the job centers…get a copy of truckstop news…and todays sun is advertising for class 1 and accommodation…so theres a few hopes there…good luck…and let us all know how you get on…

cheers for that truckboy, will go get a currant bun straight away.

short update, rang 5 agencies in doncaster and sheffield, all advertising lots of work, ongoing contracts etc - yep, come and register - not a lot of work though, oh, thats a standard advert…

gits :frowning:

Beware of this ‘accomodation arranged’ malarky. I’ve heard mixed reports on it, mostly negative.

A guy I was talking to signed up with a southern agency called ADR and they arranged accomo. Trouble was they were charging something like £80/week and it was like 6 drivers to one 3-bedroom semi :open_mouth: . Not my idea of fun. Hardly worth going down imo.

if you are prepeared to stop away from home in digs all week ( might have to organise digs yourself ) then get the companys down in crich on the M1 contacted … off the top of my head i know asda tesco and the royal mail have all recently been advertising …
dhl at east midlands airport will more than likely take you on …
approx £21500 pa pay rise is pending apparently you will do at least 2-3 stop outs a week … this is night work and the stops are day stops … trunking to a station
pay it aint great but its better than nothing

Scunthorpe Forwarding are advertising as I type, 01724 864242 for class 1

Just looking at T.I.R, website (agency) looking for Drivers in Howden I think very probably Shcreiber? inc NEW PASSES. if my memorys correct do 12 weeks and you will be full time and they have a very good rep.

 Gordo,
there’s a couple of haulage yards down at Gunness Wharf, - Saturday morning might be the best time to go there and have a ‘look around’. ~ “And I’ve brought my licence with me if you want to take a photocopy while I’m here”.

Have you tried Grampian at Thorne?

Good Luck,

If you want the Truckstop news try this link.

You can look at the paper online, though the March edition has been up for at least a fortnight so some off the adverts may be out of date. That said some do seem to be regular advertisers.

Good luck.

i’d have thought scuny would be a good place to be as a driver, have you tried PDL?

hey el g 78 have you tried manpower in lutterworth the got a load of contracts around the mids m1 area
