theory test

If you have just passed your HGV theory test & hazard do you have to do them both again for PCV ■■?

As far as I’m aware You have to do a separate theory and hazard for pcv

Yep, hence I won’t go for the “full set”

Yes you do.
I had my PCV first and asked them about that when I went for my HGVs and I had to do them both again (hazard and theory)

Daft thing is that the HPT is exactly the same for both !

Aren’t there loads of bus related questions though ROG?

A bit too much faffing about as far as I’m concerned. I can drive a fully freighted artic anywhere that is legal, but I need to do another licence and all that what goes with it, to drive a modified rigid?

^^^^^ This^^^^^. I can drive a fully freighted artic, yet can’t drive a 16 seater minibus. Go figure.

I THINK (and dont shoot me if im wrong) but you need the seperate license because its people you are carrying in a bus, not potatoes

Ha ha. I think it’s more to do with the fact that I passed my car licence in Feb 97, which is the year they changed the licence entitlements. My point was to do with I’m trusted with 44 tonnes and not 16 people in a Transit van.

Snowman is correct. People are more valuable than goods. Just because you drive an artic it does not mean you are competent to carry passengers.
There are plenty of drivers that ARE capable but there are certainly plenty who should not be let loose behind the wheel of any lorry.
If you want to carry passengers take the appropriate test although all tests are far too easy hence crap standards in abundance. :unamused:

A load is a load, do we go rip-roaring about, and generally throwing our motors around because we can’t kill anyone■■?

These lightweight artic things that couldn’t kill a soul.

Agreed. BTW, have you seen the standard of driving from bus drivers? Hardly world leading is it. In my experience HGV drivers are far more professional. Sorry if that upsets a few folks.

Also people who pass cat D also get C1 automatically…

Your view certainly does not upset me.
Just makes me realise how biased you are.
I will let you into a little secret.
There are good and bad bus drivers
Good and bad lorry drivers and a lot of lorry drivers who drive buses as well.
The standard of so called professional drivers is appalling a lot of the time.

I have pcv and yes like snowman said you need to do a theory but as I’m sure anyone on here who has done bus driving will tell you - don’t do it man.

The abuse you have to put up with just isn’t worth it

The public abuse you.

This is the only reason why I’d never consider bus driving. I’m no good at dealing with idiots. I’d snap after an hour and drive the f***ing thing into the nearest canal.

You’d never moan about doing multi drop again I bet

Yes it seems weird but 16 people in a minibus is a far more important load to tip over or drive over a verge with than 44 tons of general haulage.
It seems daft from an hgv driver point of view but I can see why they would want people to do a seperate test.

Definitely
The abuse from the public and other road users is not worth any amount of money and I would never recommend bus driving (esp service buses) to anyone

So why do busses do 60 & most of us HGV drivers do 56 or less when we can actually do 60 but or bosses in there wisdom don’t like it

Shouldn’t it be other way round
