The tightest mains roads for HGV

mark croft:
having took a 40’ container to minehead on friday, via the A39 (no choice over the 13.9 lim for the A358) coudn’t help notice signs to avoid the [zb] hill at all costs for artics/hgv’s ,so how bad is this hill, and as anyone given it a go? :open_mouth:

It’s ok, better upwards than down, need to use gears not brakes and not meet anything on the bends cos you’ll be going round them on the wrong side of the road  oh yes it’s got a 17t limit too

some lady decided to swap christchurch ,New Zealand for Minehead, why christ knows,me i would have gone the other way.

she must be mad, I live near Minehead and I certainly would pick NZ any time

ps. if you spelt Porlock properly it wouldn’t have gone in the autocensor

thanks for the warning about the hill ,hopefully never going anywhere near it,as you say minehead is tight anyway, and the A39 was my only route to use cause box was 9’6 putting it over height, would have used A358 if that is better from taunton,or is it just as bad as the A39.when i was leaving minehead there was a load of traffic going towards there for the weekend, which didnt get much help from a artic going towards bridgewater, followed by loads of cars behind.

drop/tip was in a cul de sac used by tennis club parkers and no room meant a jack knife spin to come out and half a front lawn getting a extra heavy roll from the cab.

The A39 is better than the A358  there are other ways but not recommended if you don’t know exactly where you’re going

they usually get out the way  oops I’m not really using the size of my vehicle to intimidate other vehicles, I don’t go that way too often as I live up in the hills a bit and with the box on I run at a height of 13’8 so just go under the bridges ( If you got a tape out you’d find they’re nearer 14’ than 13’9 )

charge them for landscaping

I sometimes tip in Minehead and then have to tip Braunton or Barnstaple and the advisory route for lorries through Wheddon Cross so as to avoid Porlock Hill is atrocious. Most of our drivers go back to the M5 rather than face it.

wimps

( that’s even closer to my house)

not really a A road but this one put all of the years driving round the smoke to the test.

coopers row EC3 ,london
within spitting distance from the tower, flunky on the hotel reception said all 128 boxes are going in the resturant,my reply find two more blokes and three luggage carriers, and i will bring the boxes to back of the trailer, five mins he’s lost his jacket,(front of house manager),covered in dust from a full trailer of duvets, all this at 6 am

his face was a picture when he saw just how much room he needed to fit them all in.
