Over 900 jobs will be created . . . .
Can’t be all bad?
They will probably want to build another warehouse here too.

Again, cannot be bad news

Yup, good news for those that live nearby - sounds like a positive
maybe they will learn from the mistakes made at livingston and employ builders instead of cowboys this time. there is always something being repaired or left broken in livingston. there has been ongoing repairs going on since the place opened purely because they did it as cheap as possible

If it was another company I might agree. I think Tesco have been allowed too gain far too much market share and I don’t believe that’s healthy for their suppliers, employees and to a certain extent their customers.
If it wasn’t going to be staffed largely by immigrants I might agree. It will be so I don’t! And it’s a plain lie to state it’s because British workers don’t want the jobs or don’t do the work as well. Who do you think did all these jobs until 5-6 years ago? And Tesco used the availability of cheap migrant labour to attack the terms and conditions of it’s existing workforce. My experience of migrant warehouse staff working for Tesco is that they aren’t doing the job as well as it used to be done.
Create 900 new jobs
900 people to account for a pallet of bog roll coming in etc. I have only ever delivered to a Tesco RDC once before, it was in Middlewich 4hrs to book in one pallet has made me not want to touch them sort of jobs ever again, I see it as 4 hrs wasted of my life, I have so much better things to do with that time as apposed to sat in a drivers rest room.
900 jobs may well be created but how many will be lost at other DC,s that currently service that area. Tesco created 100’s of new jobs at Avonmouth but shut Chepstow, pay less per hour and for those who have to cross the bridge daily the £5.50 cost soon mounts up.

My thoughts exactly! It makes me wonder how Harlow/Snodland stand now, both smaller and older RDCs.
It’s Tesco’s way of cutting cost. The staff at harlow are on stupid money. Drivers get 35k for 48 hrs a week, plus ot, pension, shares etc. They’re on well over 40 a year with a small amount of ot. The warehouse boys top 30k. They’ll shut harlow. Give the contract to stobart and tell the staff to transfer and lose 20k a year or do one. If you don’t belive me, I’m sure the lads from chepstow and middlewich will back me up.

100% spot on
every new depot opened by Tesco from now on will be a Stobart run transport office
Tesco get grants for building the depots for next to nothing and will get free rent for 3-5yrs
and ■■■■■ the wages of their workforce all at the same time .
WIN WIN situation for Tesco me thinks.

shame they havnt sorted the crap road surface in the yard, youd bounce about less on a bloody bouncy castle than in their yard.
anyway wont be back there, 3 assessments cancelled on me just as im in the building/by the office staff so losing out on being paid and also the cost to get there and home. its went downhill since monarch took it all.
I recon that will put paid to Harlow, Welham Grn, and Snodland.

not really beacuse while work is still being carried out its called snagging, while there is snagging going on they can hold off on the final payment.
There has been rumors of this coming for weeks they are building to take full advantage of the channel tunnel rail link which this is being built alongside…stobart win they get there own rail hub instead of using fords and tesco win because the fresh fruit goes straight into the warehouse avoiding any road use …by the time this is up and running the lease will be up at thurrock so they close that jobs lost?Harlow closes jobs lost?welham green as well?jobs??good for the economy?I don’t think so they are creating maybe 900 jobs but how many are going to be lost in the first place?

this is not just the RDC. some of the back door bells at the shops dont work. according to the doormen, tesco will not have them repaired because they wont make any money due to the bell working. last night i had a drop at hermiston gate which is a new shop. the lighting in the yard is all out leaving only the light from above the fire exits. you cant see a ■■■■ thing and apparently tesco cant afford to have the lights repaired
Gogzy, both agencies are losing drivers because of the tesco contract. the last couple of months has been too much for some of them and i wont be in there much longer either

That’s the free market in operation: Once tha agencies start saying to Tesco “Sorry mate - can’t get any drivers for the money you pay,” then Tesco will have to put the rate up.
Once the East Europeans with no ties here realise; that by the time they’ve paid tax, NI, etc, and suffered a bad exchange rate to send money back home, they will be heading back to where they came from.
they are all in the warehouse and only come over for set periods anyway from all over the place. not that they make much difference. everything that comes out of the warehouse is a shambles. drivers and shop staff both hate them and it has nothing to do with nationality as there are plenty of our own in their who are just as bad.
i can only think of one immigrant in the drivers room. Darius is lithuanian and has set up a home here so he wont be going back over there and he doesnt get treated any different to us. we both work for NAS, started at the same time on friday night and sat together having a good old rant about tesco then the agency. we both went to get tesco cards so we can use the machines but were told that we arent allowed them. only monarch drivers are allowed to be issued them
i read tescos ‘look how green we are’ codswallop magazine the other night and 2 things stood out to me.
- they are providing more recycling facilities at all of their shops to help customers recycle and do their bit. thats BS! the customers will fill these things up then tesco will sell them to recycling companies so it is about making money, not caring about this climate change farce. i wont be touching them unless i get my cut of the profits
- one of the measures they are taking to cut emmissions. apparently cows are ‘windy’ animals and cause a lot of damage to the environment so tesco want to work with the farmers to see if they can change the cows diet to reduce the problem. i might have to keep a close eye on that to see if it would work on me
They’ll shut Snodland whne it opens anyway and porbably Harlow too.
There building another one at Crick.
