Hi Andrew,
Yes mate I still on the Gas Tanks, Cryoservice now, but still running out of Air Products @ Didcot, I Supervisor now so still driving them as well, makes it a bit more varied, have a day in the Depot every wednesday to do all the paperwork etc for 7 wagons/10 drivers. last run I did across the water was about 9 years ago when I was on for H.S. Frederiks, Nijmegen, miss it the way it was then mate, but not the way it is now! I live in a little village, married again (3rd time lucky!), my daughters have grown up, aged 16 & 20, but got a 5 year old boy, I’ve had 1 night out in the last 5 years! Quite happy to go home every night & take my 3 gun-dogs up the fields, got 4 pubs in the village as well so life not that bad! Hows ure big-bruv, I heard he is on Containers out of Southampton? Where did you go after Cannons?
Regards Chris[ Hi Chris, hope all works out this time around? floated around abit after cannons seperated 2 n half years ago after twenty odd years of marriage think she panicked when i got a job to be at home more lol(once every two weeks lol) so went back on for Davies pretty much living in truck, sounds worse than it is but i suppose it’s what you get used? plus it’s pretty relaxed on here & no running bent!! my son.s 22 & daughter 20, get back to see them now & again.Boris is on container’s still working for crossy?apart from that life’s sweet lol.have you got any more photo’s from the good ol days to put on here? i’ve just got myself a scanner so when i’ve found pics & learnt how to do it i’ll post some on here, take it steady regards Andrew

Two Photos of an F7 8 legger in Pauls livery

Another local company to me was Harpers of East Cottingwith. They ran out of Howdendyke jetty for many years and had dozens of F7 doing steel and timber

Volvofh16:

they still have this in the yard and all it needs is a good polish.

time to put my photo for the FL7 in someone took this photo of me coming out of dover .my son found it on ebay look very carfully and you can see him on the passanger seat he now drives for pentalver transport a super space cab not a lot of differnce

Hi Andrew,
Yes mate, I have got a few more pics. was gona put them on the Oxford firms site, my scanner been knackered for a while & I given up with it now, so gona use the dark-sides computer/scanner to put them on, hopefully this weekend. I saw Duffy the other day on the A34, he flashed & waved as usual. Its a job keeping my photos in any order, my boy is constantly rummaging thru them & asking 1001 questions about them, looks like he’s got diesel in his veins too, if it ain’t got wheels he’s not interested in it, duno where he gets it from!! Some good pics. you are putting on the Davies site mate, keep em coming, they all bring back memories, & much as I like my life now, the urge is always there to drive across the link-span knowing you have gota week or few away seeing new places! Regards Chris

SIMPSON BROS STOCKSFIELD

this f7 had a 16 speed box fitted,i think it was one of R.MINTOS to be used on forestry work.the splitter was on the dash,i remember once climbing up the hill after wetherby roundabout with 20 ton of steel on,a lad called brian on g,e armstrongs tried to get passed with plastic pipes on but could’nt he did’nt believe it had 16 gears until i let him passed and showed him the splitter on the dash,if i remember rightly brian had an A reg f7,i think they put a crawler gear in the newer ones so they could go to 38 ton AJR 247 V was also about 5mph faster than a 8/9 speed f7.

The 38 tonne F7 came with the 16-speed box as standard, and a little more power - from memory it was 243 bhp (ISO) as opposed to 224. It had a slightly longer wheelbase too. And didn’t you need all of those gears sometimes!

And yet, the earlier ones were plated for 36.6 tonnes, and chugged along reasonably happily (by the standards of the day!) with their 8 gears and lower power.

I drove an 8 legger bulk tipper and an artic bulk tipper, but not to sure where the mighty bit comes in

Glenny Brians was a B reg I got his F7 when I started for GE in May 87 Brian moved on to a C reg F10, but that F7 was a great puller I had a sticker on the front Little Choo Choo, Big H Harry Bolam wasnt to pleased one day when I passed him in his F10 up shap both of us loaded out of wales with steel for Carlisle. 240 Gardiner dont think the 16sp was standed for the bigger Fs ad on I think ,Mate of mine had one on Collinsons the firm I left to go GEs went well

Found this one parked up in a yard in Tasmania!!

the f7 at simpsons was’nt a one off, dukes transport in northern ireland had their wagons with 16 speed boxes, they were swapped out of their 8 wheel tippers(or so i was told).i got mixed up with the 9speed box that was fitted to the FL7 to go to 38 ton.

Some great Volvo photos so far. Here is a few from me:

Yes, the 38-tonne F7s came with the 16-speed as standard fitment- all part of squeezing the extra out of that little engine. Ours were all A & B reg. machines, like this one:
