240 Gardiner dont think the 16sp was standed for the bigger Fs ad on I think ,Mate of mine had one on Collinsons the firm I left to go GE`s went well

Yes, the 38-tonne F7s came with the 16-speed as standard fitment- all part of squeezing the extra out of that little engine. Ours were all A & B reg. machines, like this one:

Mine was a B reg with the bigger engine pulled well but it only had the standerd Volvo range change so was a late model FL`s came out a yr later, so I````ve got to disagree with you mate

Your gaffer must have been pinching pennies, matey! Unless it was plated at 32 tonnes instead of 38? Anyway, Volvo literature promised it as a 16-speed as standard! We wished they weren’t really, though, when three different casual drivers managed to change down the range instead of the split, which didn’t do them a lot of good…

Mine was that quick Gardiner I good get the job done & get plenty of this

Only photo Ive got of that F7 it was a cracking little moter, although on the job previous in 1981 I went from an F88 to an F7 I wasnt to pleased at first but got used to it :unamused:

Years ago i worked on a fuel contract in scotland we ran a few of these f7s they were great for this type of work, In all the years we ran them we had very little down time, When any strange driver went on them for the first time they always got caught out if the air pressure was low. remember the push in button at the side of the gear lever, you had to build the air up and then press the button some sat revving the engine and they would not move. Once they were shown what to do they thought they were great lorries to drive.
