Hiya,
The Missus and me, have just returned from a long weekend in Blackpool, took
in a show Tommy Steele in the Glenn Miller Story, I think the part of principal
Glenn Miller was a bit badly assigned Glenn passing away at around 40 Tommy
pushing 80 and looking that age but the acting and music and dance was good.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hiya,
Yes Larry, managed to get a few different single malts the Scots boys hadn’t
managed to drink the place dry, but did take some from home in a hippie in
case there was a shortage and a little sip on the bus when the missus has a
nap, Larry haven’t got the teeth for rock munching any more, Glenfyddich is
the most popular from what I saw in Blackpool.

Good to see you back Harry. Blackpool is a great place.
Cheers Dave.

Hello Harry. Nice one. I am a bit of an old Hippy myself, but used to be Skeggy for a fun weekend…Did I get that wrong? Jim.

Hiya,
Jim, I consider myself more “hapless” than “hippie” these days but the memories live on.

Hiya,
Thanks Larry, we do like to do Blackpool a couple of long weekends each year
it’s a bit “old hat” for me originating from that area but the missus loves the
place and it makes a change and travelling by coach I can have a tipple or so
when in motion courtesy of the hippie, bottle in the bag hippie in the pocket.
thanks harry, long retired.

Pleased you had a god time me never been to Blackpool in my life ( been near it a couple times with “work”

Same here, Southport cold-store, might have been SPD. To long ago to remember, but do remember watching out for Z cars. The driver was George Betts, and the motor was Mk 3 AEC FVG 488 with drawbar. Now you can call me grandad. No way were we going up the Golden Mile in that lot. Jim.

i hate blackpool . when i was a nipper my dad ran a coach business and i was sent with him most weekends out of mum’s way . i lost count of the times we went to blackpool on a sunday trip , dad kipping on the back seat and me trainspotting , the engine shed was next to the coach park , but you can only look at engines so long before boredom sets in . i’ve only ever gone back there under protest when the kids were young , never again . dave

I have only been to Blackpool twice, the first time I was following the queue of traffic through the illuminations when my cars engine died and the battery was flat through having the lights on on tickover! Out with the starting handle, a quick wind and away we went again! Second time was when we used a B&B for the weekend and went for a walk on the seafront, it was so windy that I got severe earache and that is the one and only time that I have suffered from it, never been back since apart from when we used to deliver tarmac to the gasworks there!

Pete.

130 pages, and vitriol! No problem with us. Definitely a fan - Jim.

Well I must admit Blackpool aint one of my fave places, But I did take the kids to the lights a few times, Plus my Grandson, They thought it was great, I used to deliver to several Food Wholesalers there in the 50/60s Era with Danish Bacon & Butter Etc, Of course it was in & out then to Trafford Park to Reload with Soap Powder from Thos Hedley Ltd (Procter & Gamble Ltd) As it is now called today, The good old days in my book, Regards Larry.

In my younger days when we were struggling for money I did a bit of part time coach driving (when i had extra hours to spare) mainly for Wallace Arnold and National Travel. So one Saturday it’s a men only day trip, Bradford to Blackpool (oh joy :unamused: ) late start, late back out of Blackpool (midnight). 23:45 on the coach park police van pulls up alongside, open the back door and they drag a NAKED, (completely, not even socks) intoxicated young fella out. “you brought him from Bradford, you take him back, we don’t want him”
His father was also in the party and he wasn’t best pleased mainly because it was a repeat performance by the young fella, he’d done it last year. Seems he got pi**ed, stripped off, and thrown his clothes in the sea.
Well, it was about 03:30 by the time we got back to Bradford, non of his “mates” would help him out and the last I saw of him was walking stark naked up Thornton Rd. Bradford.
True story is that.

Hiya,
I well remember in one of the free moments in my life you could buy used Jags from
the back row of most car dealers due to them at the time being rust heaps and you
could get them for a song and petrol prices going sky high and the old Jags loving it,
and from where I lived I could do Blackpool in easily an hour so the place became a
regular night out Oh’ and not proud of it in those pre breathalyser days could return
home in about forty minutes, I still do Blackpool a couple of times a year but I now
let the coach take the strain, each visit I find the place becoming more derelict and
when a business becomes empty instead of being taken over now getting boarded up
instead, sadly a sign of the times. If my Missus didn’t like her little breath of fresh air
I’d find somewhere else to go but not Scarborough or Whitby or Bridlington.
thanks harry, long retired.

Well Harry, Blackpool is on the level Whitby & Scarborough is heaving going wherever you go, Hope you and yours are keeping well, Regards Larry.

It must be three years since I took wife, daughter, and granddaughter to Blackpool, I took them the year before Friday to Monday but too many henparties and Stag nights and lots of swearing. Next time went Monday to Friday and it was fit to take a family to. My daughter said I was right about missing weekends out.

Hiya,
Norm, it’s just me and the missus that visit Blackpool I would only visit somewhere
like Southport or Morecambe should I be giving the grandkids a breakaway, but if
they visit any seaside place it’s usually in the family car and somewhere into those
foreign parts that are much too far for me to even contemplate driving to these
days with trips to Disneyland and the Eiffel Tower thrown in too far for these aged
bones to travel these days.

Nonsense Harry, this last summer I gave the Jaguar a very good taste of the un restricted German autobahn and I’m well stricken in years. Although Mrs GOM did have a small bladder malfunction when a bloody lorry driver pulled out to overtake, I think he misjudged the speed I was doing, it sure as hell warmed the brakes up a bit. :unamused:
