0Anyone know who this is I wonder, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Don’t know Larry but have seen many like it on the dock road at Liverpool
In honour of “those who died waiting” I’ve nearly joined em’ many times.
thanks harry, long retired.

Me too Harry, I used to hate being loaded for Liverpool Docks, They were the laziest set of [zb] I ever come across, They used to sit & watch drivers off loading their load while playing cards & supping tea, they were probabley getting more pay than we were, It beats me as to why they got away with it for so long, But a least we are still here to talk about it Eh, Im just having a malt to calm me down, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Yes Larry we got a lot of Liverpool docks on the BRS, always do it
yourself handball Cider from Hereford being one of the worst it
entailed taking it off the pallets at Bulmers and re-palleting it at
the docks 20 tons all by yourself while the lazy sods did the
vanishing act only returning to truck your filled pallets away and
help themselves to a can or two from a half filled one, don’t worry
driver you’ll get a clear signature was their cry, scum all of em’.
I need a stiff drink now cheers.
thanks harry, long retired.

you’ve spoilt me supper mentioning those deadlegs , at least we had comeback with them . we went in numbers with the hydrated lime bags so we all unloaded each other and always made sure there were plenty of split bags in the middle of the stack . they got dirt money so we made sure they earned it when they loaded the stillages to go on the ships .dave

Hells teeth Harry, that’s just woken some bad memories…we can do with no more talk like that. If you managed to get tipped in 3 days you’d done well
And I’ve had a dose of that re palleting business. 1960, empty into the docks for a load of treated cow hides, the lazy scrote dockers just refused to give me a hand, they didn’t bugger off for a brew, they just stood there and watched. They fork lifted a pallet on, watched me empty it handball, 20 bloody pallets. I was a lot younger and fitter but it ■■■■ near killed me. Lazy bar stewards. :imp:

i think the dockers must have had serious mental issues . when loading fruit , melons or oranges one would come into the shed , smash a box open with a crowbar ( only time i saw a docker use one ) take what he wanted and go . 5 minutes later his mate would come in , not to the open box but would smash open another box . this went on all the time until the shed was littered with ruined boxes . no wonder the docks and harbour people wanted rid of them asap when containers appeared , in fact they were a large incentive to go to containers . i used to laugh at them when they struck for a year over job losses and nobody gave a ( zb ) dave

Aye’ Dave and in the same union as us, never helped us but wanted our help
when they hit bad times thankfully we didn’t give any as they were the most
undeserving shower of crap ever to be given work and better paid than us.
thanks harry, long retired.

Yep but the garden does need doing & I can’t do it

Please, do not use the “G” word. Gives me the shudders. My Sheeps Parsley and Stinging Nettles are to be admired. Jim.

Hiya,
It should be compulsory for anyone who has land on their property in the form
of a garden should be ordered to cover the lot in concrete, mines gravelled I’m
wishing now I’d added sharp sand and cement to the mix when I did the job the
bleedin’ weeds still peep through.
thanks harry, long retired,

that’s what you get with a cheap job harry . it took me 3 years to do , but our garden is now flagged over on a fill of road planings . mrs rigsby insisted on a couple of small flower beds , but she wanted them , she tends them . i get the power washer out once a year to clean things up and that is the extent of my gardening . cheers , dave

The front garden in partly flagged for car to sit on the rest will be flagged with gravel ( but being on the sick has not been done yet so next year ) the back is half grass half flagged but the weeds are starting to come up in-between but they have been down nearly 20 years so may have to be taken up & re laid with more sand

All these paved over gardens is part of the reason that we now suffer flooding in places that didn’t flood before! Folk just too bone idle to do a bit of digging or mowing, what is the world coming to eh?

Pete.

Back to the earlier posts about dockers - when it came to Cilla Black’s funeral you would have thought that these men were holding the future of England’s industry in their hands! No wonder we went to containers!

John

Put black polythene under the gravel and the weeds won’t come up. We have a big drive, but good drainage, also plenty of lawns, but not to much veg or flower area’s, just enough to cheer the place up and give some colour.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya,
Pete, there comes a time when doing the garden becomes impossible to manage
sometimes it’s due to illness not bone idleness my doctor directed me not to lift
anything heavier than a teacup I didn’t heed his advice at first and carried on as I
had always done and undid a lot of his hard work I got patched up and am not so
bad, but even just doing the flower containers saps me and I suffer the next day
as a result, I did ten years ago have a beautiful gardens front and rear and grass
cutting was done on a regular basis but illness put a stop to it, I even after major
surgery, chemotherapy and very nearly croaking with pneumonia, I after getting
reasonably well upset the apple cart again by trying to do things which I wasn’t
supposed to do, so if my gravelled garden is causing flooding so be it, my lawn
was prone to becoming a bog for a short spell after very heavy rain but since me
having a membrane placed and gravel put on top it has never once become wet.

If you look on Google Earth at Churchway Cottages, Redgrave near Diss, You will see a 12 acre sports field that I keep cut and tidy (since I retired).
I keep my lawns the same - that is my house with the Ford Fiesta for sale in the garden. Growing pretty things and vegetables is for Horticulturists and Market Gxxxdeners. Not retired welders or lorry drivers. Each to their own. Harry wouldn’t wash his lorry and I will not intrude on somebody elses living. I buy my tatties and they taste the same. Jim.
P.S. look at the date on Google - we have moved on a bit since then.
