Hiya Gaz…first she looks very nice with a good wash…Now how can i remember her…
i can tell you most of the lorry number plates of lorries i,ve driven since 1968.
i could take you to almost every place i,ve tipped and delivered I did general haulage for many years since the same date.
when i was 6 i used to go on farm deliveries in the early 60,s around Alton towers i can still take you on a trip
and tell you what type of product was delivered… been dairy ration / hen corn or perhaps flaked maze.grass pellets.
this memory makes seeing your ERF (oh yes i Served my apprenticeship there)not a problem, when i was
traveling between Chester and South Wales from the mid 80,s untill 2002 down the A49 not a problem.
the answer is i saw her many times especially with the load overhanging on many occasions on narrow roads.
Good luck with her mate.
John now retired.
Fair play John, are you saying you served your apprenticeship with vyrnwy? I’ve known the whole fleet for years being only 28 now, but i work with my dad in a garage that maintained this fleet since the 70’s. This was one of the first trucks i ever drove being 9-10 years old and what started a passion for wagons and spurred me on to pass my HGV at 21, when u heard she was for sale I just had to save it!
Hello Paul,
The photos were taken in Southern Cyprus some years ago. The Bedfords, AEC and cranes were in a big scrapyard on the main road just east of Larnaca next to the oil refinery. There were also lots of old buses lined up but looking on Google earth it looks as though it has been cleared out now. All went to China in the boom perhaps.
Cheers Phil.

They were still there a couple of years ago when I had a hire-car in Larnaca. But they were all well away from the road and behind high wire fencing. Robert
Hi Numbum and Robert,
Definitely not there now, went there last week right along the road where the oil and gas tanks are ,did not re-col seeing anything there ,the whole area looks like it’s had a refurb.
Hello Paul,
The scrapyard I went into was on the main road . The google earth picture here is a bit further out from the refinery on the left but there is a lot of stuff in the bushes behind the tarmac yard in the centre of the photo. Its a long drive for me but if you are that way again nip up that block end turning just before it and look across and try and see what it is.

Yes it’s the same place - I remember the oil and gas terminal. Robert

Hi Numbum, that brings back a few Memories, that Refinery was nowt like that when we used to use it in the 60s, we used to load up there, and deliver to all the UN contingents on the Island, We were based at The Un In Nicosia, sadly no Piccs, Cheers Chris

Hi Numbum,
I must apologise for my she lack of eye sight, a lot of it is still there actually, I could not see it through my rose tinted glasses. There are a couple of very large buildings there now,one of them is called Jumbo, there in the car park I could now see all those Scrapyard Trucks, but unfortunately I did not have my camera and I did not have time for a photo session,I was on my way to Ayia Napa,Don’t ask…Paul
Scrap yard/graveyard near Dijon photographed from the motorway, I bet there’s some interesting equipment in there
You cannot even afford to ask the price of trucks or bits in France, way to expensive, twice the price of U.K.

even more then at RushGreens? as i have herd they want the earth for a rusted out hulk in there!
This is a great site for old memories, and its great that some of them are being sold, and so sad for a lot thats beyond salvaging. I wonder what the history behind those ex british army trucks are, is it more profitable to sell them rather than to have shipped them home, some look in good condition and ripe for restoration as the weather there is more kinder than here in the uk, there is extra cost in bringing them back to the uk. There doesnt appear to be any Daf 2800 series left, have they all been broken up ? I know in greece there are still a lot of old Scanias waiting for restoration and again in good condition, from the outside anyway. And whats the history with that Daf 2800/3300 with the roof conversion, why was that left to rot, i have also seen some good old trucks at the customs compound between Bulgaria and Turkey ( Kapicule ) confiscated through smuggling and left to rot in a field along with their trailers…a great shame.

These look like the old ■■■■■ Brothers Draycott Transport at Draycott in the Clay - am I right, and are they still there? I thought that their yard was taken over by a crane hire company, whose name escapes me at the mo!
Steve.

Being a newcomer to this site and this subject re Draycott Transport. You may have had some replies but perhaps not some info. The ■■■■■ Bros were Eric and Jack and they ran out of Hanbury. They had green Bedford S types with auto couplings with trailers made by Ron Grice for the drum job they did out of Burton. They had some Scammel Scarabs shunting trailers in the factory yard. They then went on to Traders and D-Series.They also had an Atkinson 8wheeler and some two stroke Commers with 5th wheels.I know they had a Bullnose Merc which Mertrucks bought back from them and restored it.They did a lot of Gypsum with Cargo’s too. When they moved to Draycott they had a good garage and were joined by George Brown who worked for B.R.S. and he managed traffic. George kept the ■■■ trade going. They never seemed to get rid of anything. In the office I’ve never seen so many copies of Motor Transport and Commercial Motor and at the back of the office there were more scrap vehicles than Jim Marsh had,TS3’s etc. Yes Steve Foster had his cranes there and he is now in Doveridge with quite a setup.Eric and his brother Jack owned Wiilkinson’s Grocers in Burton and later owned Dent’s the auto electrical people.Eric also had a restored Bentley which was at the Lupin Show at one time. It’s a pity they changed the livery to white as it began to look very scruffy
Regarding J.H.Allen Doug told me he fitted the A.E.C. engine.
