The Graveyard

The ■■■■■ Commers and Cargos are still in the yard at Draycott!

Intresting stuff tony

I used to load out of there yard as j b kind moved into it for a short time 2009ish but skeety promised he would move some of the old motors but never did so they left sharpish

Any ideas why he wont sell anything ■■ move anything its all left to rot theres 2 tidy b series that wouldnt take a lot of restoration

Its normally a family feud when everything is left to rot

Such a shame but an intresting place the barrell job would be van leer at a guess ■■

thanks for the info

These look like the old ■■■■■ Brothers Draycott Transport at Draycott in the Clay - am I right, and are they still there? I thought that their yard was taken over by a crane hire company, whose name escapes me at the mo!

Being a newcomer to this site and this subject re Draycott Transport. You may have had some replies but perhaps not some info. The ■■■■■ Bros were Eric and Jack and they ran out of Hanbury. They had green Bedford S types with auto couplings with trailers made by Ron Grice for the drum job they did out of Burton. They had some Scammel Scarabs shunting trailers in the factory yard. They then went on to Traders and D-Series.They also had an Atkinson 8wheeler and some two stroke Commers with 5th wheels.I know they had a Bullnose Merc which Mertrucks bought back from them and restored it.They did a lot of Gypsum with Cargo’s too. When they moved to Draycott they had a good garage and were joined by George Brown who worked for B.R.S. and he managed traffic. George kept the ■■■ trade going. They never seemed to get rid of anything. In the office I’ve never seen so many copies of Motor Transport and Commercial Motor and at the back of the office there were more scrap vehicles than Jim Marsh had,TS3’s etc. Yes Steve Foster had his cranes there and he is now in Doveridge with quite a setup.Eric and his brother Jack owned Wiilkinson’s Grocers in Burton and later owned Dent’s the auto electrical people.Eric also had a restored Bentley which was at the Lupin Show at one time. It’s a pity they changed the livery to white as it began to look very scruffy
Regarding J.H.Allen Doug told me he fitted the A.E.C. engine.

Yes the driver got out o.k.( good cabs on the D-Series) The motor belonged to Andrew Yates of Brailsford and it was his lad Stuart who was driving who formed S.A.Y. Transport. That motor had a ■■■■■■■ V-8 in it and it went well.I fetched it from Seadyke at Wisbeach after we had the body built with a blower.Good payload I think too.

Found this today, languishing in the sun in a Spanish scrapyard

She looks to be carrying a local Alicante registration - I wasn’t aware, did we ever sell ERFs in Spain?
There can’t have been that many, as this is the only one I have seen in ten+ years.

All it wants is some diesel and batteries, parked up for some 8 years,it’s A frame is parked in a local field!

image.jpg

And here is the A frame…if you can spot it that is!!!

These four Bedfords have been out of use in an operators yard in Northern Portugal for several years but look as though they were runners when parked up.
