The Forum upgrade Mega thread

stringy:
I don’t like that I can no longer click on “view topics since your last visit” (my wording may be wrong)

Just click on the “View new posts” button.

Colingl:
That thread shows the same way in IE6.

it’s fine with firefox

Thread in Old Timers

teatree:
If I page back with the arrow in IE the previous screen has timed out, I get the gray box too.
Lots of little gremlins in there

The main gremlin being you are using IE. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Lucy:
Is anyone else seeing a random dark grey box which seems to appear with no obvious logic of you let your mouse rest on a post too long? Highly irritating.

Not seeing that in Firefox

Or Google Chrome either

Indeed, or Google Chrome.

Well the old format was 100% easier to read/look through. This is all very nice etc but not half as clear.

Well the old format was 100% easier to read/look through

im agreed on that,is there any way to change the background color to plain white,an maybe fonts color to black

Now whats that American phrase, if it aint broke. Oh thats it dont ■■■■ it up.

Do you know how long it took me to get my avatar on with ROG,s help now its shrunk and web page expired. Sorry but most of us only saw computers on the tv when we were at school and then they filled a room

You find this hard on the eyes so you want black text on a plain white background

Sorry to hear about the shrinking avatar mate, but if it’s any consolation, it’s the same for everybody.

   As for how long it took to achieve, I’ve turned the relevant bits red just so you know for next time. :stuck_out_tongue: :grimacing:

has anyone notice that coffeehlic avatar is going a bit fast or is he just banging his head more

Nah, banging my head less these days. Same avatar so same speed.

Have to confess, while i’m not a technophobe or afraid of change I think the old forum was much nicer. This layout is far too cluttered and small, the whole thing is crammed into the bottom left of the screen. There also is a lack of distinct seperation between sections of the page ie the actual post and the posters info bit, the adverts and the next post etc…

The only feature i’ve noticed so far that is nice is the fact you can hover over the the posts for a preview. I use various other PHPBB forums of this version or similar and with a modified layout to match the old trucknet forum it’d be far better.

Dieselcowboy:
personally I found the old format 100% easier to read and use, do not like this one. Also I can now only view half a page when looking through the threads in Old Time Lorries, note on one thread I am posting on someone else has said the same, can only see half the picture.

Hello,

I agree the same point as Dieselcowboy. I had put so many photos on the story about Frans Maas. Now i can see only half of the photos.

Regards, Bert Wolters

I think the site looks good and well done to those behind the scenes, they know who they are.

Good job on the upgrade… I know from first hand experience how difficult it must have been.

But why the proSilver based template when it could have been designed much better with the subSilver template?

You got Avatar and posting information on the left when viewing topics, yet smilies on the right when composing a topic.

It has been opted to go for a fix width style, whilst a dymamic width style may have solved some the scrolling problems members are experiencing.

Just my 2p worth,

I must say it is getting better, however the only small critism I would make is the Forum front page could do with a larger post outlay, as you nearly break your neck too see what the post subject is.

Headache inducing colour scheme.

Too fussy a layout.

Why change it in the first place?

i must admit that the colour scheme does make my eyes hurt after a short while, especially when it is dark outside (no natural light in the house)

maybe some less contrasting colours would have been nice?

Can you do away with the page - You have successfully logged in - page ? as this is unnecessary and you know you’re logged in as it shows in top right corner.
