Tesco interview

Slight difference to driving round with thousands of litres of petrol/diesel to driving round with a few ton of grub.

Fair point but I still wouldn’t say it’s a great deal considering what you have to do to get that 30k you claim they’re on…

Pimpdaddy, you seem to have a downer on tesco for some reason, I’m not sure why, but for what they pay and the not alot of work involved, I can’t really see the problem. My opinion on them may change after I start working for them, but from the drivers I’ve spoke to, I can’t see my opinion changing.

What I’d have to do for it?? I don’t consider pushing cages just of the back of the trailer hard work, I don’t consider pushing cages onto a tail lift and lowering it hard work. The store staff do the bulk of the work, the driver doesn’t have to leave the trailer.

As for the money, the basic is £27k and then shift allowances for Saturdays and Sundays worked are to go on top, that’s for 42 hours, anything over is overtime.

Wayne:
He may get 30 grand with overtime but the basic at Tesco Avonmouth was more like £23500 when I was there two years ago, and the start times were [zb]

Basic is 27k and my start times will be between 4am and 8am, what I asked for

That’s more like it, I tried to get on a better (later) start time but they only offered earlier, midnight to 4am. Was a good job apart from that.

They are zb outfit, that’s why… I’m sure there are some people in here who earn the same if not more moolah & don’t even touch the load, drive decent kit & don’t get half the bs…!

Goodluck to them if that’s the case, you choose what you do and obviously want to earn as much for it as possible. I don’t get all this knocking the firms that other drivers work for, work is a necessity and in some places, the firms that get knocked (stobarts,Tesco etc) are the only main employer in the area, firms like tesco have good benefits and I ain’t gonna have nothing to hide so don’t mind putting up with a bit of “bs”, gotta put up with bs everywhere these days

That’s true, but one can only put up with so much bs can’t they…!?

When I worked for them through an agency I/we were treated like zb, anything from knocking your hours/pay, getting told off for going 2min over your break to being cancelled on duty start without letting the Agy know & they even had a set of tatty old trucks mainly given to agency drivers (no radio or heating in some). The tesco lads & lesbians had theirs which were new & well looked after. They created a divided, intimidating & unpleasant atmosphere in the transport office & throughout their entire business & you can clearly see it (that’s not how I like to work). The Agy lads at our place are treated equal if not better than us, many end up going perm(tesco never offered that). I also get paid more now full time than I did on Agy for tesco, that’s why I can’t understand the hype about them being such good payers (I used to overhear them on payday in the drivers room talking zb as usual)…

Im going to apply to the new Reading DC as coach driving is now doing my ■■■■ in - carting around 50 odd screaming little ■■■■■ arounds isnt fun anymore…

In a nutshell, after 24 years as a driver I have been there and done it, only an idiot would pass it up.

My only regret is I didn’t get on with them sooner 30 years paying in to the pension you could retire on more money than these so called “drivers” earn, and it which point did I say it was “hard”.

I`m one of those “so called drivers”…“£7.50 an hour glory boy”,i think you called us in a previous thread.

i take it you won`t be asking for our support, when stobbies move in and kick you all out :bulb:

I work for NFT and I’m in tesco most day, Eddie drivers (ex Corby chill) are all getting laid off and replaced with agency. Apparently they’ve done their money buying CC and it’s costing more than it’s making and I think the drivers dream of getting 7.50 an hour.

I was reading somewhere that there is going to be a new Homeware type w/hse in the Abingdon/Didcot area

Online home delivery depot / w/hse. Van drivers only needed there!

I wonder if the depot by Didcot power station is going to Reading and they’ll use the old knackered Didcot site.

and it’s pronounced ’ white-lee’ ok

Well done on getting a job with a blue chip company with a genuine and decent hourly rate. Easy life for you now. But please try not to hold us boys up who are on trip money, thanks.

Ahhh gotcha, never heard that term before. yeah I’ll be working Saturdays and Sundays, but 1 month of Saturdays and Sundays and then the next month none, so that’s not too bad really. get paid more for working Saturdays and Sundays anyway, so that softens the blow a bit.

They told me 10.71 an hour will find out more later but very vague about money on phone.
When asked how much a year basic they couldnt give precise amount,i thought it would be annualised hours/allowances etc but said paided hourly.

all the adverts I seen had pay on it, it’s £26,700 basic, they might seem vague on the phone as they don’t know themselves.
