Tesco contract goes to DHL

independent.ie/business/tesc … 92094.html

Good news.

Only in Ireland?

Wonder if this is because tesco seem to be steadily going down the pan and are trying to cut costs by going with the cheapest competitor?

Whatever happened I imagine this is a huge blow to stobarts. Not expecting anyone at the top to take a pay cut because of it though so I imagine a handful of drivers will just get laid off instead.

For now at least as it was only the Ireland contract up for tender,I’d imagine if DHL do a better job than ESL at running things then it may spread to England when those contracts are up too.

‘“Our transport and distribution operations contracts recently came up for renewal and as a result we tendered the business to ensure we remain competitive” said a spokeswoman for Tesco.’

That’s management talk for ‘the last lot have so been so hopeless we just had to go elsewhere’

More like can we cut our distribution costs even further.

Not necessarily, for Tesco to remain competitive they need fully stocked shops, maybe ESL weren’t producing this due to transport being badly managed…Tesco will be happy to pay more for someone to run their transport if it’s means more sales at the tills.

I can’t imagine a company like Tesco’s not having something in their contract that allows them to drop an under performing company before the end of a contract period.

Stobarts takeover of Ireland has been floundering for a few years now, all he has is the Tesco work, has moved out of his high profile site in Dublin port to a strip of land around the corner that if you blink as you pass it you will miss it. Took a lot of work from established hauliers when he first came over but slowly they have got it back as they were providing a better service. Stobarts lost sight of the fact that they are providing a service for the customer and it is the customer who dictates terms and conditions about when the goods should be delivered not the haulier. Certainly hasn’t become the power he thought he would be.

If the drivers get transferred over to DHL ,They should be no difference working for one bunch of muppets for another

Ireland is a completly different market then the Uk for hauliers thus stobart new that when he first started
What may be 100 miles down the road in rural ireland could take 5 hours where as 100 miles in rural uk will take 2.5
a motorway in ireland consists of two lanes in uk thats called a dual carriageway
irish hauliers way of operating is completly different then the uk and i cant see DHL surviving too long either , its best handed over to the likes of Keeling s dennigans etc whom know how it works.
And as already said here in Ireland the haulier doesnt tell you the terms the customer does
if hauling was that easy in ireland every foreign company would have been here years ago a lot of the irish guys trucking is in their blood passed down from generations and its hard to beat that

I’ll not say what I was told , but the fact there taking on all these new contracts tells a tale to be honest

I drove for Stobarts at tescos dc Goole. I left due to their incompetence and sheer ‘couldn’t care less’ attitude. If Tescos do the same over here I certainly couldn’t blame them for going elsewhere but there are some good drivers there, it would be a shame for them to lose their job if a new incoming haulier didn’t or couldn’t take them on.

You where told all the confidential economic details about DHL. By your mate? Whilst washing his trucks?

i would think stobarts can not provide the service as they can not get good drivers as they pay such crap money

i seen an advert for a stobart job £435 a week ■■? dont know how many hours for it but i think anyone would be better off doing an 8 hour day in any other type of job and would earn the same if not more or maybe a bit less

try doubling the money and they might start to get old drivers who know how to do the job back into the game stick with that sort of money and you will only get the numb nuts who want to wear the green shirt and have there photo taken but have a liking for hitting bridges, getting lost down country lanes or any other manner of stupidity that they can get up to

No its not. They are all up for tender and have been for months. And its nothing to do with how Stobart run it. A lot of the jobs for Tesco dont make much money because of how they schedule them. Stobart wanted to renegotiate the contract when it expired in March this year. As a result, Tesco put it up for tender. They want everything done as cheap as possible.

Thats the biggest load of ■■■■ I’ve ever seen on here. And that’s quite an achievement with the garbage on here.

You beat me to it, DHL aren’t renowned for their treatment of, and how they look upon their drivers.
So no change there then for the ex Stobby guys.
