0Here’s one BD if you have seen it before my apologies.A big Aveling one of those that serviced the crusher at Middle Peak, the driver Im sure is a young Michael Smith who joined the o/d ranks later on. Mike.
(Well it is khaki and got the seven Ts on)

yes it is a young michael smith, cos he’s my dad

Here’s a modern day eight legger Scania that a lad from Manchester owns. I’ve decided to put a pic up 'cos of the automatic back door it has. I remember the Reivers at Topley Pike having these in 1977 and someone once told me the first in the country was based at the Pike.

Who would have thought it, BD posting a white Tarmac truck, after all these years, we are weaning you of the khaki ones ?
Latest spec vehicle recently arrived, Jeff Bennett’s new Renault…

One of the smartest, and cleanest MQP Trucks is that of Tony Gough, this is his previous Volvo, that was often seen on the roads of the West Midlands. This one was replaced in early June 2011, by a new Volvo, of which I have yet to see…As mention previously, MQP Ltd is a Tarmac / Hanson JV. Look at the logo on the tipper body, and the M is in the style of the “A” from ARC (now Hanson) and the outer triangles are in the colours of Tarmac.

Saw his new one parked up at Wednesbury depot on saturday looks really nice what makes me laugh is non of the Wednesbury boys will come into cliffe hill apparently “it’s to dirty” lol

They are all ex Rowley boys… the distance used to frighten them!! When the Rowley operation was being wound down they started to introduce a rota to go to Cliffe Hill, one of the six wheeler drivers couldn’t sleep the the night before his turn - the thought of it made him ill!! Three year old Rowley motors used to sell with less than 60k on the clock. Why run distance when you could run six black locally for 100km a day - with plenty of time to keep rinsing your shiny wheels off in between!! In fact, i think the record was eighteen loads in one day on the Dudley Southern Bypass job.

I had khaki Volvo FL10 (F189 AOL, Ex Kelvin James) in Rowley for a few years, it was sold on and eventually shipped to Kazakhstan. I also piloted a few ‘green and creams’ out of there too.

I left the tipper game in 2008 (last load I did was ex Bayston Hill for a Cemex night job on the A49 by Leominster) - back on fridges now!

Paul Tyler drives this Scania for M A Griffiths and hauls from the Gore quarry.

A South Wales artic.I think.

O/D’s Mark Herrits and Peter Preston haul out of Dolyhir/Strinds quarries.

Clive Williams hauls out of the Gore quarry.

Dave Thomas drives this Volvo for Tony Lewis and hauls from the Gore quarry.

One of Cricklade hauliers J & B’s M A N eight leggers up on the Welsh Borders for a load.

Kevin Bufton bought this Scania new.Now drives it for Alpha Haulage.

One of Bayliss Bros Scania’s who haul out of Dolyhir/Strinds quarries.

These were my collection as a Tarmac O/D… the last one with the Scania was at Poplars on one of the early fuel protests, I organised the slow drive to Manchester with a few other hauliers ( Roy Braidwood, David Bratt and Roy Chamberlain). I had about 2 dozen Tarmac O/D’s coming on the protest but Tarmac warned the operators they would take action against them if they went, I used masses of masking tape to cover the name up and led the protest to Manchester considering my options on the way, I wasn’t a Tarmac O/D very long after this.

Great pics Sep mate. We need more of those protests right now.

The cost of fuel is an absolute wazz take. :imp:

Best left to them thats done nowt before, thats my synicle side. I’d love it to be cheaper but it just doesn’t affect me that much anymore but if anybody has any useful ideas I’d love to hear them… Shouldn’t you be in bed at this time?

On nights tomorrow pal so staying up well after bedtime.

To me one of the most stupid ideas to come out of the haulage game imo. Bardon have had these doors open themselves while going up the Motorway before! At least with a traditional tailgate, they are physically locked so can’t fly open.

Plus, no one would drive off without checking it’s closed, so they might as well be closing it themselves!

We had one of those taildoors at TILCON back in the eighties, on a dry stone lorry, and you had to clean it off each time or it wouldn’t close properly. I would have thought that with tar you would get a lot of cool air entering there as they never fitted well, however TARM*C had plenty of them so they MUST have been good!!! :unamused:

Pete.

The wagon i drive has a air lock tailgate,F,IN useless last winter 05:00am 3tons of 10mm single size lost driving out of quarry and onto the linkroad  if i had the chance i would cut the whole lot off!!!

They are well renowned for not shutting if they get a little ■■■■ in them, or looking closed when they’be not actually locked.

Glad we got our DAF on the road before Bardon made them mandatory.

A more unusual Tarmac truck for you …
