Got a fair old load on that little Bedford.
Hi BD.
I think you have had this one before, but saw it again today sunday 20th june @ the Scorton vintage fayre(in between Garstang & Lancaster.)
John
Just a quick 'un before bed.
This really is a cracking shot taken by Peter Davies sometime in the early 70s opposite the Rising Sun pub at Hazel Grove Cheshire.
The Routeman was based at Topley Pike and was a 26 tonner. It was part of a batch of Routemans moved into Topley Pike shortly after Tarmac had bought Derbystone Stone out (the previous owners of Topley) and they upped the fleet as there was plenty of work out of Buxton due to the motorways being put through round Manchester.
Few more by the maestro that is Pete Davies.
This shot was taken at Cawder quarry Matlock in the mid 90s. Cawder was the main transport base of their Derbyshire fleet with extensive garages. I was once told that in the early 70s, Cawder would have hosted anything up to 300 vehicles over the weekends !
All gone now though; it’s the site of a Sainsburys supermarket.
And finally I’m unsure if this is ex Tarmac but it looks the part all the same.
This pic was taken at Agecroft plant Greater Manchester in the late 90s.
I’d like to know if Agecroft ever had a fleet of their own back in the 60s / 70s ?

Great shots Steve.
Many thanks forposting them!
Hi Bonkey
The shot of the Leyland you have at Agecroft (I am sure) the registration WRJ is an old manchester/salford reg which sugest they may have had their own fleet
heres one for you bonkey
Hello Drewton, don’t take this the wrong way, but if you must post up other peoples photos (Leyland above, taken by me in Mountains yard at Wirksworth in 1994) it would be nice if you at least revealed the source mate
hi scarren but ive hundreds of pictures of trucks on my computer some ive taken and loads from all over the net where i havent a clue where there from, didnt realise you could only post your own pics ,sorry drewster.
Hi Drewster, no worries mate, thanks for being so reasonable about it all.

I believe this to be an ex Wimpey’s tipper that ran from Darlton quarry, Stoney Middleton. They had a fair middling of eight legger Constructors with the narrow six wheeler cab and I was told at the time it was a cheaper option and also saved on the tare. I can’t help but think it looks an abnormality though, much like the narrow cabbed 3000 series Foden when allied to a eight wheeled chassis.
One other point about the Mountain’s yard at Wirksworth where the shot was taken; I was once told it belonged to Derbyshire Stone as a small holdings yard for drivers that wanted to park their vehicles closer to where they lived.
Can anyone shine any light on this claim? After all, Middle Peak is within walking distance of the small town.
Although I believe it may be a possibility as there wasn’t much space to park the fleet at the quarry.
Two more here for you bonkey laying the black stuff years ago.
JOHN
BONKEY,HOPE YOU DON’T MIND ME PUTTING THIS UP,NOT OLD,BUT NOT THAT NEW,USED TO WORK OUT OF COULDON LOWE UNTIL APRIL THIS YEAR,IN BAYSTON HILL NOW,ALL THE BEST,JASE.
Hi B.D Had another look through your thread just to make sure I wasn’t duplicating this one and it seems I am not, so here you go mate.

Thanks for them Stanny mate, keep the good work up!
Also spotted this one on that site. Think it may have been based at Cauldon Low. (Reg plate appears familiar)

Nice to see this one Bonkey & Drewton, I always thought the narrow cab looked good on an eight, no accounting for my taste I supose!! The rightful sucessor to the Octopus & Mammoth Major (as opposed to the Routeman).
I’m pretty sure Parsons Transport (Aylesbeare Nr Exeter) had on of these on for ECC in dark blue livery. Always thought my old man should have had one, in addition to our sixes. We used to spread a lot agricultural lime so the narrower cab would have been good in the narrow lanes & farm gateways.
Presume the engine options were a bit limited though due to lack of space undeer the cab? Anybody know what was the biggest you could have in one of these?
Anyway thanks again, Andrew Stone
