Sorry mate,I haven’t a clue. All I’m interested in is the pics of the wagons themselves.

Though Master Bates ( ) features in a couple of pics I have earlier in this excellent thread. He owned eight leggers at one stage or other, both Sed Aks - X reg and a D reg.

Dave retired many years ago his last wagon was a foden 8 wheeler he was a true gent. i remember him travelling up the m6 at fifty something miles an hour [that was pre limiter] but he was so respected nobody passed mim.

When did he start driving tippers for Tarmac, mate ? And can you remember what sort it were ?

Good article Bonkey.

Made me laugh that Tarmac told em’ all to have six-wheelers back then. We must have about 60-80 contract trucks round here and not one is a six-legger! :unamused:

I think he retired at least 10 years ago and started much before my time. I will try to find out more he was a very popular character and lots of folk at carnforth will have fond memories of BLASTER . [help sep]

Hammer do you still run a six wheeler i think tarmac as much as said they were prepared to loose a few [most] with the loss of the min 17 t load

No problem hammer lad.You know me and my affinity towards the Seven Ts !

And as for the six wheelers thing,it was the same here in Derbyshire mate.In the seventies, there were still 8 wheel Fodens knocking around (ex Hillhead Quarries) owned be Tarmac and virtually overnight (around 1979) the fleet was all ridded and sold off only for Reivers to take over. These were then later replaced by F7s and a few 6 wheel Constructors. It stayed this way until Tarmac sold the fleet off in the late 80s/early 90s.

Nice photos BD I’m on a week of nights on tarmac at the moment can’t get away from the stuff.

My favourite thread of all time ! :sunglasses:

heres them pictures I was on about I took them myself last month on the A36 wiltshire…

Just noticed this  , if you are still interested TD - yes I still plod on with my 6. There are about 12-15 of us, none on contract though. The loss of 17t min on dry clobbered us pretty hard, particularly as I am based in a quarry with no tar plant! Plodding on though, fairly busy but I don’t imagine it will stay that way for too long… :open_mouth: :frowning:

You don’t go on black at all then mate ? :open_mouth:

How do you make the job pay,if you don’t mind me asking ?

I do go on tar BD but the quarry I mainly run from has no tar plant…yet. Basically there are two large quarries within 2miles of each other owned by Tarmac. The one with the tar plant is closing down in the next year and the plant will be shifted to the other quarry.

I go to different places and take tar if its offered. The job still pays but I find efficient running on dry to be better than buggering about giving people an hour for nothing on the black. Also, with an older truck having a breakdown with black on is a nightmare!
