The nearside shot pic doesn’t look that bad with the fuel tank filling the gap, but the side off-side view does look a bit odd, that’s a fair old gap between the drive & 2nd steer axles isn’t it! Nice looking wagon though, but you wouldn’t want to be in too tighter space with her, I bet she would be a cow to shunt!
Regards Chris

It maybe just because the tank trailer is a modern affair and has the pin right at the front.

Some more recent photos of a chinese 6 atki, was the wheelbase always this long ?
This one is an ex-Sutton’s 8-legger, SDJ 415L. It became a wrecker with Transfleet in Preston and was then cut down into a tractor.
The last time I saw it it was painted red and belonged to someone on Colne, I think
I have an uncle who was with Air Products, fleet Eng or something like that first down south then moved to Carrington has retied these day name of Joe Connor

That name rings a bell! Don’t know him personally, probably heard it or seen it on some paperwork or something. I have run out of Air Products Didcot now for about 16 years in total, for A.P. & now Cryoservice.

I remember Joe conner. A couple of others that come to mind were,Jimmy Wright, Phil Shears who moved to Air Products Canada.

Didnt Air Products run quite a few V8 AEC`s?
Whether any of them V8s? There nobody in the workshop at Didcot old enough to know now, they had them at Bracknell (closed when Didcot was built to replace it), but all the old drivers that may have known have retired too now!

It is the one at the back that is interesting. Taylors of Lichfield,Yeeha!
Wheelnut, I was told a story from a Taylor’s of Lichfield driver about late 1970s or early 1980s. All the drivers had gone in the office for a pay rise. The boss smashed a table in the office with a metal bar. One of the drivers said does that mean no rise then! Is there any ex Taylors drivers that could confirm this!
I worked for Robin Taylor in the late seventies and early eighties. although that was not his real name (Philip Leo)he adopted robin after someone called him it followed by another word which meant you served drinks I can confirm he was without doubt one of the best gaffers i ever had . wish he was still around today and i would be back like a shot

Joe Connor retired to Angleesy (not sure about the spelling) and was still there last time i spoke to his daughter sheila, he was a great guy always making you laugh. When he first started at Stepheson Clarke (i think ) in the 50,s He had Freddie Garrity as his apprentise (From Freddie & Dreamers) always clowning around he said

I also remember hearing the same story and was common knowledge about Tayors drivers asking for a pay rise and the gaffer split the table in two with an iron bar. Maybe at the time a driver had a gripe with management or it was all a bit of banter gone wrong.
Can anyone remember Cawthorn & Sinclair from Birtley, have two ERF Tankers Proctor & Gambles livery, powered by RR. Fuel Injetion Petrol Engines, the drivers loved them, very quiet & I would imagine pretty fast, to say the least.Regards Larry
