Hi David, R Rankin & sons were based at chainbridge road blaydon, I was employed in Grangemouth on the ici …burmah contract , The manager at that time was Peter brown, When they lost the ici burmah work to P&O they seemed to vanish, yes they were part of the TDG group, I always found them to be a good company to work with (matt).

Another long gone name from the past
I think Blakey is still into hiring trailers out and running his garage. I have seen a few fridges around with the PB numbering system.
Flying Foden said they were working with Customs & Excise on the dodgy fuel evacuations last year.

Cleveland Tankers, Think Rankin joined that lot. David Gee wrote - R,Rankin &Sons taken over and became part of TDG. Head Office in Blaydon (Newcastle). Satellite depot started on Teesside with Alex Ballentine Fox (what a character) in charge. With the help of some massive contracts from I.C.I. the tesside depot became much larger than Blaydon and was renamed Clevland Tankers. Remember Charlie Buttons (General Manager) Fred Stockdale (Engineer). We had an German Shepherd watchdog called Prince who was scared of the dark and had to be babysitted by the drivers and staff.Shawfleet, (still running)

I know the Marathon’s gota box on but its a line up you don’t see any more!
Looks like an ex Shell Trunker on there?
Could be, most of them went to the Oil Companies. Thinking maybe the Atki’ is ex-Killingbeck?
Greetings All, it could be an Ex.Shell Trunker as nearly all of them in the fleet were “K” registered with the odd “L” here and there.Mine was JGJ 572 K, with a Leyland 0.680 in it. Regards,900x20.
This was taken when the drivers were on strike. It was taken on a Sat morning when the yard should have been empty.
Same day different angle

Yes, it’s an ex-Riding Borderer that Dr. John rebuilt as a Chinese 6. I think it was new to Monkland Motors, and passed to Riding when they closed.
This photo looks like it was taken in one of Kev Dennis’ yards - all his motors anyway. All had the same Dulux blue paint job

Yes they are Kev Dennis’ wagons, he has a taste for the Classics!
