Hi Wheelnut
Britannia Lard at Birkenhead was PL Transtore base. Four Humko Lads were taken on by PL Transtore, i was taken on by Smith and Robinson to do the same job at TEO. Did you post that you know Colin Jones who was the traffic manager or was it sniffy. chears mate,
A couple of the later artics, as i remember, once AS Jones started with the design, Claytons built for most of the companies carrying shortening or similar. Obviously no hazard but could be a pig to discharge
The tanks tipped product through a pump, fairly certain assisted by a compressor, with a eberspacher style heater and water jacket to keep it flowing
Here’s another one from Buckleys fleet.

I agree that it looks like United Molasses Pete. Turn right after Falcongate and down on your left. If you know what I mean by turning right at Falcongate
adr:
Always thought this paint scheme suited Tankers really well, quite plain but smart!
Hmmmm ?
Cheap and nasty (IMO), now a nice new Tate & Lyle bulk tanker with the FL10 pulling the Carmichael bulk tank in Tate’s old colours ! (not the silver tank colour)
yep i know what you mean wheel nut matey, its the up the road opposite some houses, still loaded oil from the same gantry not too long ago…
A couple more Atki’s here that Sadler Tanker of Thornaby on Tees ran during the 70s before they started with DAF& Scania.

Those Sadler Atkis bring back memories John. They used to run toluene and xylene into Marchon Whitehaven same as A E Evans and I was forever watching in me mirrors for them catching me up,the 220 ■■■■■■■ and Fuller box was a better combination than the AV760 and six-speed box in my Mandator.
Hi Chris they had just started to replace them with DAFs when they took the company I worked for Townson Tankers over in 1980.I found these photos on a stall at Harrogate today (Trans Pennine Run) would you believe they were at the front of the pile in one of the boxes I looked in.

Wheelnut, I was told a story from a Taylor’s of Lichfield driver about late 1970s or early 1980s. All the drivers had gone in the office for a pay rise. The boss smashed a table in the office with a metal bar. One of the drivers said does that mean no rise then! Is there any ex Taylors drivers that could confirm this!

Wheel Nut:
Cleveland Tankers, Think Rankin joined that lot. David Gee wrote - R,Rankin &Sons taken over and became part of TDG. Head Office in Blaydon (Newcastle). Satellite depot started on Teesside with Alex Ballentine Fox (what a character) in charge. With the help of some massive contracts from I.C.I. the tesside depot became much larger than Blaydon and was renamed Clevland Tankers. Remember Charlie Buttons (General Manager) Fred Stockdale (Engineer). We had an German Shepherd watchdog called Prince who was scared of the dark and had to be babysitted by the drivers and staff.Shawfleet, (still running)
