Sorry got it wrong, cafe on right not left leaving Cadishead. There was another further back towards Eccles on left towards W,ton just after going under M63 (it was M63 then) in a big lay-by.Anybody remember it?Maybe it’s still open.
Yes I remember the one in the lay by it was called The Caracafe if I remember rightly and it was a good un
That’s the one bigpeter, the Cara cafe.I’ve had some dodgy nights out on there as it was off the main drag and wasn’t the road all cobbled?
It was in the 60s and 70s so I could be wrong.
I remember the Cara Cafe 1970,s when i was tanker driving for Conoco (jet) at Poynton, we would meet for breakfast on way out to Lancs.
Great food there, as for being cobbled road, it was the original A57? (Cockney Spinks)
The entire Amoco fleet lined up in Avonmouth docks, mid afternoon and Finnished for the day. Amoco sold up and pulled out of this country not long after.
Many of the tractor units going to Spiers at Melksham.

Re Castrol Look at Ackworth transport on one of the previous pages you will find pics of the vehicles that ran on the Castrol contract until 1992. I used to run into Stanlow two or three times a week around tha time I also helped restore a tractor unit that Iain Wilkinson and myself aquired from Stanlow. You will find shots of that on the ERF A series page. Ps. the pages will be in “Old Lorry Companies”

Their tanks are shipped to the Isle of Man John, presumably with bitumen. What’s the history of Nynas, did they take another tanker company over?
Hi Chris
Nynas is joint owned by Neste Oil Coporation & Petroleous de Venezuela SA.they have 2 refineries in Sweden and 2 in the UK.they originate from Sweden I think.

Great pictures of the Amoco fleet. I grew up on Petrol Tankers, my dad being a 25 year man on Mobil, I
was lucky he had a Deot Manager that was an ex-driver that turned a blind eye to this lorry mad boy always hanging round the Depot & going out in the wagons. It was a nice little depot, 5 artics & 9 drivers. Every weekend Saturday or Sunday or both if I could I’d be there riding shot-gun with dad, or Colin (1 of my older brothers, dad managed to get him on there, that was the way it was then on the tankers, dead mans shoes or who you new to get on there!), a few of the other drivers on there dad had worked with before on BRS Oxford on Tramping in the 50’s-60’s, & Spriggo who dad had worked with on Night Trunking for Hawthorns, Swansea, down & back to Oxford each night, so I used to go out with them as well, so during all school holidays I would be going out with someone on earlies, 5 am- 2 pm ish, then jump in another wagon & go out on lates 3 pm- 11 pm ish, happiest days of my life, wish i could re-live them. I always look at the petrol boys now, they always seem to be charging around without a minute to live, my best mate is on the fuel & he says that now with bottom-loading etc even the banter is’nt the same, no chatting over the bays while you stood on top loading. With dads lot they always had time for a cup of tea, stop for breakfast at a Cafe, dad never charged around like a nutter, I can still picture him bowling along steering his AEC Mammoth Minor/Mandator/Buffalo with his left knee while he rolled his ■■■■! Back to the subject of Amoco, many times I used to drive through Melksham & see old Amoco Mandators being done up or canibalised, did Spiers have a deal with someone on Amoco so they could purchase their old wagons, or did they just buy them at Auction?

Always Interested in a beer tanker. I was weaned on Hull Brewery from a young age We had A131 PAT at Woodbrow as our first 3300 supplied by Arnold Worral at Thompsons of Beverley. Not sure about the Croda motors as they had places all over, Oak Road and Stoneferry in Hull. Rawcliffe Bridge, Oldham and Belvedere were regular haunts for me.
