Hi Ted,thanks for that, you learn summat every day on here.
Same here Chris, I had never seen one of Woodies with a trailer either but it seems like a cushy number for the second man.

Russell.
I don’t ever recall seeing Smith and Robinson running a wagon and drag either Russell. I know Guinness ran wagon and drag tankers and Whitbreads. Robert Armstrong ran them when part of P and O.
I found this somewhere,a AEC MK5 wagon and drag tanker. The name looks like DOOMS on the cabside and the reg is VAM 444 which is a 1959 Wiltshire number. I wonder if anybody on here recognises the motor? The trailer looks like it’s on a dolly, you can see the landing gear legs/wheels - or am I seeing things? There’s no front mounted exhaust so it must be carrying non-hazardous product, like oils and fats for instance.
B. Coulson:
I remember Geoff. I used to go to school with two of his sons, Mark and Clive. Geoff passed away a few years ago. Two of his sons Trevor and Mark did follow in his foot steps. Both used to work for Symphony in Leeds. Been out of touch with them now, so not sure what they are upto.
BIGGEE:

I Think the driver next to him was Stan Target “the prince of darkness”

I think Geoff Wilkinson was on the BP contract same time as me, before I read the text I would have said the other chap was Les Wilkinson, also on the BP job. I have enclosed a photo of Les below. Referred to as Joe Stalin.
Do you remember Dave who we all called Scoby Breasly, he was just the opposite to a jockey, great big lad, good humour and also on the BP job with me.

Not a great pic, but in the old ICI colours anything can bring back memories!

Hi Sniffy ,Adr you are right about the ICI tanker being on chlorine at Runcorn. That one is taken on the loading bay in Castners, thats one of my old motors,i was on ICI for 21years mostly on chlorine and sulphur dioxide,it was one of the best jobs in the UK bar none.Sadly all gone now.cheers Ted.
Nice photos John, the one of the two Fodens in Baldock is a cracker.Agricultural,Heavy Organic and Dyestuff were some of the Divisions I recall.
ICI had a huge fleet and a load of AEC Mandators with tanks like the one in the bottom photo with what looks like a load of methanol - 2PE 1230 ?
use to do a lot ov work over there in the early 80.s tipping uni chema. lubrizol. and van den bergh foods. united mollasses. cadburys moreton. have all the tank firms gone now like a lot ov the above mentioned. william brennen had a nice fleet. he use to run out of uni chema bromborough. blue and white dafs 2800. 3300s.

It was the dry air compressor and the front over that gave it away
Nice to look at now Chris, not sure how lovely it was on the road Great photo, black and white pics are far more nostalgic than colour I reckon.
Very true Chris. now we got the flash wagons but the camaraderie has gone, & so has the great network of Transport Cafe’s, & time to do the job & enjoy it
