what was the chemical co in droylesden what did they do and where did they go think they had a white leyland artic if i remember right im sure it had something like berk in black writing on itI remember a company in Droylsden called East Lancashire Chemicals, just off Ashton New Road. Berk Spencer Acids had a place in Stratford London, later known as Steetley Chemicals IIRC. Their motors were white with black signwriting.
That is the one I was thinking of Chris, not a tanker operator though, caustic and degreasers iirc.
I spent a lot of time in Manro and it was never so bad, normally the load was ready to go and it was for Europe at the time. I gather it went downhill as it grew.
My worst memories of a dosshole was Lankro in Eccles
No the worst dosshole had to be uniqema at bro brombrough it was nothing to go in there at 8am and come out late afternoon. No wonder it closed down a load of lazy gets.
As anyone ever been into Lankro’s to collect a load and it was ready to load as we did a fair bit out of there in the 70s and 80s mostly to the continent and I recall you always got loaded and paper work done with just enough time to get to Hull for the boat and it did not matter what time you got there in the morning it was always a PM load.
Is uniqema at bromborough what used to be "Prices Chemicals " and then Unichem if so it did have a very good social club you could use and the shop was also very cheap always came out with a cab full from it and you could clean out there as well some of De Mulders of Doncaster used to do 2 loads a day into there but I can never remember them being very lively.
Cheers Johnnie

Hi shugg I remember them both only saw Tyburn on the road but I knew a couple of Woods drivers as some came to work at Sykes when I was there 70s and 80s
cheers Johnnie
I remember Tyburn Road Services,a big company in the 60s and early 70s.They were taken over by the PD - Powell Duffryn Group.
The logo on the cab was a steering wheel with two hands, you can just see it on this photo…
And this is one in the PD livery…
I think they were an Uxbridge based company and they were always to be seen around the tank farms on the Thames;they had a depot near Grangemouth at one time.

0Heres one from about 1953 its not all on because photo’s damaged.Mike.
Still a good old photo though Mike.
I was wrong about them being Uxbridge based,it was Monkton Motors I was thinking about…
Hi all,I remember seeing a pic of a Tyburn Scammell Highwayman in a book in the late fifties they were quite a big co fom Beaconsfield Bucks. In the 60s they had a depot at Ashton in Makerfield just off the M6 as you say Chris they became part of the Powell Duffryn group. Cheers Ted.

Hi Lads
The Clayton Analine company was on Ashton New Road Clayton Manchester. All Manro,s work is now done by Lewis Tankers who have a few of there motors based at stalybridge (but it has improved quite a lot) and the East Lancashire chemicals company was on and still is on Edge Lane Fairfield Rd Droylsden(backed onto the canal) not far away from the Robertson jam works
Established in 1845 with sites across Manchester and Lancashire for Soap and other Chemical production, the East Lancashire Chemical Company remains a family owned and managed business today.

Christ, look at the size of that manlid, I’m surprised you could actually find any space to load anything in the tank with that!
The whole raison d’être for Prices club was because Unichema was always a ■■■■ hole!
Tyburn was before my time, but PD wasn’t
