I met Mr Tabner at Premier tanks with his 143, seems a decent bloke, I did tell him his fleet looks the buisness, the new Volvo will fit in nicely

Hi Trevor.Tyburn Road Services were from Beaconsfield originally, they were taken over by Powell Duffryn Group and sold on to Calor Transport. Sadlers have always been a Teesside based company.

Chris

Hi Trevor. Yes Sadlers head office was at Thornaby on Tees but they sold out to British Fuels who in turn sold to CPL of Chesterfield who in turn sold to Stiller transport in 2000 and then Stiller shut down a couple of years back and now Imperial Tankers have moved into there yard and took over the tanker side and they are owned by the Hargreaves Group.Mind boggleing :unamused:

hello John and Chris thank you both for your replys , Tyburn had some nice Fodens , and i think i can remember they had some unusual Atkinson Leaderer 6x2 units as well . Talking of Chesterfield reminds me of the Stavely group who years ago again with Fodens hauled acids to Monsanto . thank you both again Trevor

I remember Smith & Robinson tankers. They had 2 8 wheel tankers with Rolls Royce petrol engines ( fully sealed) so no one could see or tamper with them. Only R.R. fitters were allowed to touch them. They ran from Trafford Park to Proctor & gamble Purfleet. Only 4 miles a gallon, one driver was nicknamed Yorkie he had a big handlebar misstarch. I worked for Hills of Botley on contract

Correct, and given a clear run, loaded, they used to go up Standedge like stabbed rats. Economy wasn’t the name of the game with those things, they didn’t last long. Straight 8 RR petrol engines. My brother was an apprentice at S&R at the time.

Yes Trevor,I think it was Acetic Anhydride they tipped at those two places.I loaded out of Spondon many times in 70s.

Not much left at Celanese nowadays Chris, they laid a lot of staff off a while back. We used to do a lot of road resurfacing in there, I know the locals used to complain about ‘fallout’ from the factory ruining their washing!

Pete.
