Arrow Bulk on Contract to Doverstrand.

That’s a great old picture of Arrow Bulk on Doverstrand contract. I went to Doverstrand regularly in the 70s with Styrene. They had a site at Stallingborough and one at Harlow, not sure if there were any others.

The Hemphill Scammell brings back memories as well Chris, thanks for posting.

Chris
I remember those Scammells on contract to Doverstrand at Stallingborough, used to see them a lot with living in the area, at the time they seemed to be BIG trucks.
IIRC they were replaced with ERF LV’s,and I think that even Doverstrand has gone now but 100% sure on that.

Cheers Bassman

Great photo, just as I remember them. You could always tell an Arrow Bulk contract motor by the KH or AT Hull reg plates.
Bassman,it was a good drop,no messing at Stallingborough and there was a café not far away, name escapes me. I used to go via the A18 and then turn off left through the Yarborough?? Estate instead of via Immingham. That café was on a corner I think.

Chris

Crow near Tower Bridge.

Chris
I can only think of two cafe’s in the area you describe, the most obvious is the Pelham Cafe, just round the bend past the County Hotel in Immingham.
This cafe has the truck park behind it.
The other cafe is on the Kiln lane Ind.Est. at Stallingborough,in front of what was the Saab cars preperation plant. Both these cafe’s are still going .

Cheers Bassman

Did n’t Doverstrand become Synthomer?

Spud

I had forgotten about Synthomer, yes I believe they took over from Doverstrand. I always get confused with them and Cray Valley, they are almost next door to each other.

Bassman. Yes,it was the Pelham, nearer to Immingham than Stallingborough, used it in the 70s.
You mentioned Cray Valley and I think they had a place at Machen between Newport and Caerphilly. We used took thousands of gallons of white spirit in there over the years.

from memory when you get to the T junction if you turned right it was Doverstrand, left was Millenium Inorganic and then Cray Valley, which was owned by Total and then became Archema?

Revertex / Doverstrand, not sure what the tie up was, maybe bought out, then Synthomer, Arrow bulk as the haulier through to DHL today

I’m fairly certain Hoyer had the contract for a time a while ago

We’ve had a couple of Dutch lads running out of Air Products, Didcot for the last few weeks.
