W.B. ■■■■ & Co, can’t make out on the door where they’re from? 4 in-line trailer, tyre fitter’s delight :unamused:

It’s got a Surrey reg Chris but if you google W B ■■■■ they had a refinery on the Thames,Bermondsey as far as I can make out. They sold out to Wakefield Oils.

Sniffy:

lee mat:
what was the company in trafford park that was where the asda now is used to see united transport going in there round the back was never to sure what it was but it seemed to be empty for years

The yard you mention was attached to the main site of Smiths of Eccles, Smiths used it regularly and when TDG moved in they parked a few rolled tankers and VOR kit there. Pickfords/Tankfreight was on the side nearest Dumplington circle and Massey Ferguson tractors on the other side

I missed the view of Ancliffs yard next to the Barton motorway when that closed

Thanks Chris. The photo of the Mercury struggling on the hill was taken in 1963 and I think it was in Rochester or somewhere else in Kent. A E Evans had a Mammoth Major WUU 675 and the Sheffield depot shop steward drove it. I took it out once or twice until I got my own motor.

Hi Beaver 680,
Good solid reliable fleet motors, ideal for intensive 24 hr tanker work  Same as our Sed-Atki 400s & Strato’s on Air Products, you could cane 'em night & day, ■■■■■■■ & Perkins powered with the awesome twin-splitter box they just ploughed on & on! Ours were a good buy too, well maintained by AP regardless of cost!
Regards Chris

The Tanker company at Trafford Park on the site of Asda was Smith and Robinsons (S&R) they were bought out by United Transport, which accounts for the livery change to UT. They also bought out the Ancliff site at the side of the motorway and kept it open for a while before moving everything onto the old S&R site. There was a smaller Smiths of Eccles cleaning depot just outside the gates to the estate. I finished off my time driving for ASDA Wakefield and it always brought back happy memories when I used to deliver to the Trafford Park Store.

Here Chris , who is this buddy

We had this Volvo on demo in 2004 at Direct North West Ltd for around a month and then plumbed for the Scania’s

A tidy Merc with a new style gearbox mounted powder/liquid blower from Mellor Flowtrans, tidy bit of kit from last year, (or the year before) no idea if its caught on yet though

One from the Gilbraith of Accrington tanker fleet (FODEN)

Very smart

Smarter still

Any of you guys remember a tanker company called LPG ran orange Maggis i think, also can anyone remember a driver called John Broadhead (Tabby ) i think he worked at Smith & Robinsons before he went to work for LPG

They had a yard and tankwash at Birstall where they used to do the Hazchem (ADR) courses in the 1980s - I think they got swallowed up by the Linkman group.
