Sniffy:
Another British manufacturer bites the dust - Clayton’s are in the hands of the recievers, next few weeks will see if it gets an investor/buyer and stays in business or disappears completely !
CJA1:
when did that happen Sniffy? Cheers Chris CJA1.
It’s been a fortnight since the staff at Claytons were sent home. Prior to that, they hadn’t been paid for a fortnight. Rumours had been rife for a long while.
mushroomman:
Spotted these in Cape Town about six months ago and I thought that the name Marineslops was an Afrikaner company, I have only just realised that they were probably emptying out the bilge tanks on the ships.
Regards Steve.
Do you think there is a vague possibility that tank has been rolled at some time in its life!
I don’t think it as been rolled more likely sucked in looking at the shape of it caused by not venting it when tipping or shutting all lids and valves when hot
cheers Johnnie
Had to drop into our main HQ to the workshop in Worcester, my Scanny was the last 6 wheeler done in Cryo’s colours, here’s another new 1 I’m parked next to just having the flow-meter calibrated before it goes to its new home whichever 1 of our depots that will be! They all being done in AP colours now!

I am not sure what is happening here, job vacancies?
I think that’s an old page, the website’s not been updated for a while now. The last I heard all staff are now redundant and the deadline for any prospective owner’s had passed without agreement with anyone. I belive there were quite a few intrested parties but suspect many were just looking to aquire the manufacturing equipment rather than resurecting the company
A great shame that another once great company fades a way, but things change quickly in this industry, they may be back yet
J.A. Borg & Sons are road fuel distributors for Gozo, Maltas little sister` island.
Their fleet comprises of ex British-named fuel companies.
Another photograph for the " Tanker Fans " , and taken a couple of years ago.

Have Suttons changed their buying policy? it seems that almost every barrel they ran was constructed or refurbed by Clayton. Maybe they would have been a good partner.

Cheers, cattle wagon man.
That’s a handsome looking outfit. It looks well sitting in the sun.
gazzer:
Distinguished silver haired gentleman, ex Tankfreight!
Gazzer - I’m presuming that the only retirement pastime in Spain is drinking red wine then, the lad’s keeping his youthfull good looks on the back of it though !
Thanks for your comment, Grumpy Old Man.
Theres plenty of E.R.Fs. on Malta and Gozo , , and these 3 were parked at the bottom of the same yard. The one on the left might be ex Meachers (?), but the one on the right still has traces of a previous owner, -
Castle Cement.

Roy,I’d jump in anyone of them for a shift, great picture.I don’t suppose they will be operating much longer in Malta?
Wincanton for the middle one maybe?
Right, you Tanker Lads !! This photograph will take some of you back many years.
The photo was part of a B.P. calendar belonging to the Fuel Depot on Gozo, Malta. Various old photos were shown
of the Depot in 1940s and 1950s.
The line-up comprises of Bedford OYs , and ( possibly ) bonnetted Canadian Dodges.
Apologies for not being able to take a clearer photo of what is nostalga for " Tanker Lads " .
Chris , - Aye , you are right , the older wagons are starting to be taken off the Maltese roads as new regulations
take force. I`ve got plenty more photos to show if you are interested.
I’ll look at them. Many years ago I was in Malta for a holiday and along came this 4 wheeler D1000 (■■■■■■■ V8) with a 3 pot tank on. It stopped, I looked, and then I looked again. Hell, it was my motor at Hargreaves in the late 60’s, I’d run it from new until I moved up onto bigger motors. I could still make out the lettering and the Mobil logo on the tank.
Happy days

There were offers made by just two interested parties - both were less than half what the receivers were looking for. The place had been offered to UBHI as far back as 8 years ago, but they declined to make an offer after seeing how much capital investment would be needed to re-equip the factory for lift-tank construction. Given that they no longer manufacture road tanks (they were Suttons preferred manufacturer before Claytons) there was little point in moving for the sake of it.
There is apparently going to be an auction at Claytons in the near future - although whether there will be anything left worth selling is the subject of much local conjecture.
beaver 680:
earlier days or years unloading a train of oxygen at port talbot steel co sidings.
Hi Beaver 680, was this about the time BOC were changing from the red to the grey/white, I see the red tractor there & the trailer looks quite new! Is that a Sed-Atki 400, cos I don’t remember you running those?
Regards Chris
