tailgating

coming down the M4 today and was overtaking a Tesco wagon,i looked in my mirror and all I could see was a ■■■■■■■■■ shape behind,i pulled in after the overtake to see another artic so close that if I had my trailer doors open he probably would have tried to fit his lorry inside,he must have been about 2 to 3 feet off the rear of my trailer,if I had to brake for any reason there is no way he would have been able to avoid a pile up,as he came by I looked at him and shook my head in disgust,on top of that he was eating a roll,i am no innocent when it comes to driving like a plank but I don’t think I have ever been that close

I get irritated by HGV’S tailgating cars, but can honestly say that one tailgating me when I’m driving my lorry doesn’t particularly bother me. Maybe my thinking is flawed but there’s only gonna be one winner if I have to stop suddenly and it ain’t him.

Someone is now gonna post “yeah, but what if…” Or “he’ll push you off the road too”, but tbh I’ll take my chances thank you.

A quick tap of the brakes is usually sufficient to remove that troublesome set of mirrors at the end of your trailer.

Tried that once, only made the situation worse.

If you have a truck up your arse and you are driving a car ask your self why… The answer usual is because the car driver is ■■■■ flapping about

Lots of horns, flashing of lights, various forms of sign language. I guess he was in a worse mood than I was.

Agreed. Sitting on top of a car will do nothing but inflame the situation. Anything goes wrong then you’re the one to blame.

Not necessarily true, I have had this on the A9 when out with the family, my speed is down to 45 - 50 with several miles of cars and trucks in front of me, no opportunities for overtaking, and yet I have some brain dead moron in a 44 ton truck sitting right up my chuff. Where does he want me to go? Does he really want in front ? I have sometimes even overtaken a couple of cars in front just to get away from theses dangerous thicko’s. If I’m in a lorry in that situation I would hang back a couple of hundred yards and relax with cruise on.

Yea
When it was 40 on Single i did 38 Cruis to Kings Lynn on A10.
Stops me a expensiv Merc at Tesco there complainin that i blocked his Lorry from Cambridge on.
Well then. If the Bosses that Way,wot you expect from Staff?

I understand your frustration mate, and if the truth be out I sometimes wish I had a big steel girder attached to the front to push them out of the way. However, I long ago realised that “pushing” cars is counterproductive; the half minute you would save if they weren’t there is more than lost when you push them as all you achieve is them slowing further and so the cycle goes on.

Seriously mate, you’re driving a truck, you can’t just nip out and pass them so just drop back, relax and save your blood pressure.

It happens all the time and is only carried out by brain dead morons as you say. The thing is there have been several occasions over the years when in my car I have had the chance to face these clowns face to face. Suddenly they are not such big bullies. I am not normally a violent person but I get immense pleasure by doing what I should not. :imp: :imp: :imp:

Albion is a big hard man now - get off the horse and give the thing a rest.

Answer me this! Why when fully loaded am I overtaking cars on a clear dual carriageway? Uphill especially■■?

Does not matter what you in or what u tailgating, always leave a space u can stop in, this is basic driving. Narrow minded Idiots risking lives cause in their heads they believe it makes a difference.

Because you’re driving too fast for the conditions?

No I would not class myself as that but I am quite fit for my age and can handle myself when I need to and in these circumstances I never hesitate.
I would not care if I got caught either. It would be worth it.

In answer to your question…maybe you are in a bigger hurry than them.Maybe it is a funeral procession.
Very rarely happened to me when driving a truck.

Can you tell me what the cars are doing wrong?

I hope your not a bully when driving your truck.

I got tailgated on the way to work this morning by another driver from the yard. I was up plenty early enough, didn’t need to rush and was rolling a smoke and didn’t want to drop tobacco as I’d payed a Romanian to in and out clean it at the weekend. Just flicked the rear view mirror down and poodled on at my own happy pace.

Although I wouldn’t tailgate the inability of cars to climb hills on motorways and dual carriage at anything above 60mph is frustrating. The M62 is a classic for this have regularly overtook cars on the big hills or worse had to ease off then loose all momentum. Good driving conditions then not maintaining at least 60mph in a car on a motorway should be an arrest able offence, you can drive for weeks on the continent and not overtake a car then overtake at least 10 between Dover and London, the British public have very little concept of motorway driving or that motorways are there to get from A to B in the best speed not dawdle at 50 taking in the secenery if you want the scenic route then get off the motorway

When I said I love it I was just being flippant really but in the vast majority of cases, even though it’s wrong, any vehicle tailgating another is usually doing so because the vehicle in front has done something not to their liking or is ■■■■ flapping about. Doesn’t justify it no but 9 out of 10 there is usually a reason.
Any driver who hasnt in the past or doesn’t in the presence enter into the ‘‘uncomfortable’’ zone behind someone who has cut them up or deliberately slowed their progress is a liar
