Answer me this! Why when fully loaded am I overtaking cars on a clear dual carriageway? Uphill especially■■?
No I would not class myself as that but I am quite fit for my age and can handle myself when I need to and in these circumstances I never hesitate.
I would not care if I got caught either. It would be worth it.
In answer to your question…maybe you are in a bigger hurry than them.Maybe it is a funeral procession.
Very rarely happened to me when driving a truck.
Can you tell me what the cars are doing wrong?
I hope your not a bully when driving your truck.
Although I wouldn’t tailgate the inability of cars to climb hills on motorways and dual carriage at anything above 60mph is frustrating. The M62 is a classic for this have regularly overtook cars on the big hills or worse had to ease off then loose all momentum. Good driving conditions then not maintaining at least 60mph in a car on a motorway should be an arrest able offence, you can drive for weeks on the continent and not overtake a car then overtake at least 10 between Dover and London, the British public have very little concept of motorway driving or that motorways are there to get from A to B in the best speed not dawdle at 50 taking in the secenery if you want the scenic route then get off the motorway
correct mazzer too many buffoons playing on face[zb] ( face ache! ) ■■■■■■■ ( Twitter! ) or ■■■■ watching/ texting!
Driving to a friend’s house a few years ago, I had a BMW 1 series right up my chuff while I was doing 40 in a 40.
Unfortunately for him, I was in a crappy old Vectra that was soon to be scrapped. Cue me indicating to turn at the last minute, dumping the anchors and him running into the back of me. I really couldn’t be bothered with paperwork etc, so I turned my lights off so he couldn’t get my numberplate and got out of there with a grin spreading from ear to ear.
I was young and stupid but it was so ■■■■■■■ satisfying, and hopefully taught him one of the many reasons not to tailgate
Contraflow:
A quick tap of the brakes is usually sufficient to remove that troublesome set of mirrors at the end of your trailer.
Tried that once, only made the situation worse.
Go on.
Lots of horns, flashing of lights, various forms of sign language. I guess he was in a worse mood than I was.
I aint in the habit of holding somebody up just for the hell of it at all.
On the few occasions if I inadvertantly discover I am, down lapse of concentration or whatever, I would pull back in lane 1 and give the guy a wave as he got alongside me.
However in o/p’s situation, (and if I’m doing nothing wrong of course) a quick apication of the exhaust brake (no brake lights) sorts the job out.
If I then got the flashing lights horns etc from Mr Bigballs , it would have the opposite effect of speeding up to keep him cracking on.
If that makes me a bad driver to some on here, I could not give a ■■■■ to be honest.
Talking about driving for weeks on continent and not overtaking any cars a friend of mine regularly drives back to czech republic from uk in car through germany etc and says only country where people lane hog and get under your feet and wont move over when flashed then play silly buggers is uk.
Why do so many so called professional drivers drive too close behind other vehicles? It seems to be common practice these days.
The question is do they actually realise they are too close or do they think they could stop if something unexpected happened.
Of course you get the ones that know exactly what they are doing and they are the worst offenders.
A lot of car drivers are clueless but any professional that drives too close just because they feel someone is holding them up needs to be put off the road before they possibly KILL.

Answer to your question is limiters. I do not remember it being a problem pre limiter days when the speed differential between trucks was far greater.
A lot of drivers have not got a minute to spare so sit on the limiter like their life depends on it, that is proved when you politely pull into lane 2 to let some knob head trucker out, and he leaves you hanging like a spare prick.
Can I just congratulate you for being the first poster (afaik) in 2016 to use the old…‘‘So called professional driver’’
And can I be the first to say in 2016…‘‘Think of the children’’ when tailgating. thank you.

You are probably correct that it is the main reason for driving like an idiot. I do not remember it being such a big problem pre limiter days either. I also remember drivers were a lot more courteous to each other and were far less aggressive.
Still not an excuse though and any driver that cannot control his right foot should be dealt with severely.
I used to be proud to say I drove trucks but I am almost ashamed now incase people think I drove like a big bully.

Agree with a lot of that, but I don’t believe it is THAT bad, even though there are more Class1 dicks than there has ever been.
Ok our pr is at an all time low, that is because it is only the bad drivers that are highlighted and discussed by other road users.
You never hear 2 non truckers talking in a pub saying."I saw a real pro truck driver today, done every thing right’’
It is always the negative that is a conversation subject, then the next guy gives his version, and before you know it the pro.s are tied in with the d.heads, until we are ALL labeled.
I still like to think though that the good lads are still in the majority, including a LOT of newbies.
Same in all walks of life; bus drivers, taxi drivers, royal mail drivers, estate agents, used / new car sales men, etc, etc. It’s always the toe rags that get everyone a bad name. You just have to live with it and not join the tossers.
Now I’m back to me Jim Beam Honey and I don’t give a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■ any ■■■■■■■ more.

Yes I agree that it is the bad ones that are discussed and the good ones never get a mention. It’s all about perception and unfortunately some drivers think their driving is fine and that they are keeping a safe distance when they are not. I came across it many times when involved in training.
I would love to think you are correct when you say the good lads are still in the majority and as I do not drive very often (especially in a truck) these days I will take your word for it but the last time I went down the road it was not that great.
I also agree about newbies. Like us oldies, some good and some bad. Maybe fresh from training with few bad habits helps but then you have the exuberance of youth which sometimes leads them astray.
Wot happen often is any flying with 90 on second Lane. Just when he approaches for overtaking another going with 85 pulls there out to overtake one who goes with 80.
So the faster will be tailgating for a short while till the one who goes 85 pulls back to first Lane,if he does. And,if he keeps going 85 the with 90 will be shortly out of Sight.
But then is the Question, why, the one who follows the other with 80 suddenly speeds up to 85 to overtake the one just when the faster started overtaking the both.
We had that once at the Brenner that a empty Milk Tank overtook all slow loaded Lorries till one pulled out in Front of him.
8 People were killed.
So much to professionality on our Roads.

I get irritated by HGV’S tailgating cars,.
I’m the opposite, I love it.
If you have a truck up your arse and you are driving a car ask your self why… The answer usual is because the car driver is ■■■■ flapping about
Not necessarily true, I have had this on the A9 when out with the family, my speed is down to 45 - 50 with several miles of cars and trucks in front of me, no opportunities for overtaking, and yet I have some brain dead moron in a 44 ton truck sitting right up my chuff. Where does he want me to go? Does he really want in front ? I have sometimes even overtaken a couple of cars in front just to get away from theses dangerous thicko’s. If I’m in a lorry in that situation I would hang back a couple of hundred yards and relax with cruise on.
I worked with a fella who had the same situation when out with his wife and kids,he motioned for the hgv driver to pull over, they both pulled over and the hgv driver comes up with all the mouth,ie you fxxxxxg car drivers, blah blah, when mick pointed out he was an hgv class 1 as well and on a day out with his missus and kids the other driver starts blustering along the lines of WELL YOU KNOW HOW IT IS MATE and so on,he[mick] told me you had never seen a driver feel so stupid particularly when told he was going to report the driver to his company[he didn’t]

Any driver who hasnt in the past or doesn’t in the presence enter into the ‘‘uncomfortable’’ zone behind someone
Great phrase ‘uncomfortable zone’. Perfectly describes that feeling a tailgater will get when fate comes knocking. The cemetery is full of drivers who’s aggression has outmatched their common sense.
I was tailgating the wife the other night, deep into her uncomfortable zone. She did brake test me on numerous occasions though, nearly broke me chin. Apologies for the predictable double entendre.
Tailgating is for t.wats, I personally keep my distance cos after all, I’m getting paid to be in traffic, if my load’s a bit late what does it matter in the grand scheme of things? And yes I do touch the brakes if one is on my bumper, or just pull in and let them get out my life.
Had a live one last week though, car sat on my bumper, as I turned up a quiet street I indicated and came to a gradual stop, Mr ■■■■■■ stopped behind me for a while till he realised he could actually go past!
