He should take credit that out of the hundreds of interactions that story has generated in various places only he got so confused and got it so monumentally arse about face. Which is some going when you factor in that it’s the Daily Express

There seems to me to be a strange irony in being critical of either the Daily Express or its readership when one has voluntarily contributed an article to it. They obviously set a trap for Luke here and he obligingly walked straight into it.

Really, it’s a shame that every eu member apart from the UK, Eire and Sweden placed a seven-year embargo on members from the post-2004 expansions from working in their countries, had they agreed to share the burden then Brexit might well have not been a thing. There is no doubt that this vast influx caused massive hardship to millions, particularly among what might be described as the working class and unfortunately these voices were not listened to but instead dismissed as “racist”.

Indeed Harry, and before and during this period our remaining factories saw closures often with production being moved to those same EU countries or others in the vicinity purely for cheap labour costs (and bungs from money we paid ourselves into EU :unamused: , and EU who have always hated Britain), all added to the plight of the working classes of this country and the country has become a gigantic warehouse instead of a place if industry, and one of the reasons we need so many lorry drivers is because warehousing utilises far more road transport inefficiently than factorys ever did.

The green agenda will ensure we can never regain that industrial sector, we simply won’t have the capacity to power industry other than recharge forklifts and illuminate warehouses with led bulbs.
Only last week they had to fire up a coal fired power station (in Yorkshire i believe) to keep the lights burning, won’t be able to do that next year when it gets demolished, no you couldn’t make this crap up.

The damage the Tory party (aided and abetted by a previously anti EU Labour party) has inflicted on the peoples of this country thanks to the lies and subterfuge it used to install us into the common market back in the 70’s cannot be comprehended, the country will never recover fully and it isn’t helped by so many pro EU lobbyists vested interests and their bought politicians doing their best to undermine any small advances the country could make to recover.

The tories are setting up “free ports” where bosses can pay lower rates of tax and ignore EU workers protections. See what you get paid working in one of those. That bright tory future!

You’re not far off, it’s in Lincolnshire… Here’s the link to a news article if anyone wants it.

Much obliged to my learned friend.

Truly the country is heading straight into the toilet, with a bod incapable of combing his own hair at the helm :unamused:

I only read the Daily Express for important updates about Princess Diana

DCPCFML:
The staggering thing is that this rocket would be happy driving artics for £9/hr if it meant staying in the EU.

I:
OK. So how about this for a proposal to keep both parties happy :

2 pay scales :

Pay scale 1 for all the EU-lover remainers to stay on the (max) £9-11/hr that the country would still be on if we were still in the EU.
Pay scale 2 for all the Brexiters, a natural market forces wage of £14-30/hr now that there’s no longer any competition from Romanians, Latvians.

Seems fair to me. Those that want to remain in the EU should have to live with the consequences of doing so. OK with you Vernon ?

Vernon:
Scenario 1 lower pay and IN THE EU, yes, please

Scenario 2 Higher pay out of the EU. No

This mind-boggling stupidity is why lefties shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Good to see he’s getting his arse absolutely handed to him in the Express’ article comments section at the bottom. Currently stands at 437 posts mostly telling him to [zb] off to his beloved EU.

Says the man with reading comprehension levels of a 5 year old.

Notice how none of the comments got everything quite as moronically wrong as you though?

DCPCFML:

Says the political mastermind who’s vote can be bought for a few quid on an hourly rate. Have you always been that cheap? (Rhetorical question, we all know the answer)

discoman:
Hope your still on road to recovery and can get the LGV licences back one day.

Oh I’m fully better now. Just the DVLA ■■■■■■■ about! Thank you kindly!

It wasn’t just the influx of foreign drivers that kept the wages down. POA/3x15hrs and 2x13rs in a week hasn’t helped.

Why? Trucknet is plagued with idiots and I still post. Not much point being opinionated if you only share with people who agree with you. You lads yelling into the darkness on Trucknet changes nothing, not even in the industry it supposedly represents. No trap was set, it mostly contained my own words written by myself and I knew it was for The Express. Apart from the lame Remoaner jibe I’m perfectly happy with it. I’m not as big a snowflake as many of you chaps. I’ve been online a long time, I’ve been a moderately popular youtuber 13 years, on social media similar length of time where I’m more opinionated than here so believe it or not after hunting for people to debate for over a decade I enjoy when people disagree. Well, mostly. Then you get chaps like that ■■■ on here who can’t debate for toffee. Was like ‘debating’ a coffee table. You lads should try it one day. Be brave, put your names and faces to your opinions. Not as scary as you might think. You just have to remember we’re all morons yelling into the void, nothings that important really.

In addition to the piece in the Daily Express my thoughts and question were put directly to the PM by my MP during Prime Ministers Questions last week. Quite a good week for getting out there overall.

PMQs, for anyone interested.

Awwwwww, meany. I’m telling the mods you were nasty.
just to note I didn’t and wouldn’t have started this thread on here. Get so much more attention elsewhere, this is a backwater now.

All due respect Luke, your posting style could do with a bit of a buff up.
Personal insults, sarcasm, facetiousness and multiple, irrelevant tangents do not a good debate, make. Respectful, logical and to the point responses are by far, more convincing than the bulk of the rhetoric in this thread. DCPLalphabet is a troll, but I expected better from you. Play the ball, not the man.

But but but Sir! He started it! Good points but Part of the problem is I just don’t take Trucknet all that seriously these days. Or much else for that matter. A brush with death puts everything into perspective. Not much is particularly important. Was quite funny tho seeing him bluster about getting his knickers in a twist over something I didn’t say.

Blimey, this escalated quickly. For an irrelevant forum, seems quite busy to me.
As OP’s work seems to be mostly Irish-UK-EU, when he does work, it would be odd to not be a Remainer. Vested interests and all that.
Most of the pics I see of him, are him gurning in front of the latest chrome flagship. One wonders if his job interests are not entirely monetary and social, but more about what truck he is driving, and the perceived glamour of it all? In other words, the root of the problem with our industry now; the ‘trucker’.
Wages, hours etc are of secondary importance to just driving a noticeable truck. Hence a willingness to work for a lesser wage, when a higher one is available.
The cat is out the bag, as they say. Wages will not go back to minimum wage level again. To believe that is to miss the point. Driver shortage is not just an acute problem caused by the EU tax shysters returning home, and Brexit, it is chronic one due to the Dickensian hours and conditions we have to endure.
We are witnessing a profound social change in how people view work, and the committment demanded for the reward.
The new crop of drivers, whoever they may be, will not put up with what until recently has been the norm.
Covid, IR35 and Brexit will do for our industry what the CPC failed to do, and make the job more financially rewarding and acceptable to your average Joe, and not just those who have the faint whiff of diesel about them.

Hilariously wide of the mark I’m afraid. Those ■■■■ fancy chrome flagships I drive, so fancy

How are so few on here (and only here) not getting what was a fairly basic point I made? Let’s try again. My point was I didn’t vote and wouldn’t vote just because it was more money. My belief rightly or wrongly is that Brexit will do much more harm to the country in the long term that it’ll likely negate any boosts our pay has now. The higher one costs too much in the long run. Simple opinion, I hope I’m wrong, but I’d never vote on a single issue least of all something as fickle as an hourly rate.

Janos:

That made me laugh tho, comedy gold!

Very nice photos of trucks posted by someone who’s no longer the holder of a licence to drive them.
Order one of these, perhaps you could keep this one on the road.
